Sato Racing Rearsets
#1

Hey gang - Has anyone in the forum installed the CB1100 rearsets by Sato Racing?

Here's the link: http://www.satoracing.com/rearsets_HondaCB1100.htm

It seems to be designed for the 2014 and newer model. I followed up with them to find out if it would work for my 2013 ABS model. Here's Matt's response from Sato racing

"Thank you for your interest in Sato Racing products!

Our CB1100 Rear Sets were designed off the mildly updated 2014 model, and has not been confirmed by our engineers to fit earlier versions, but we believe they will also fit a 2013 CB1100 ABS without any issues, since the hardware related to the rear sets area of the bike did not appear to change between those model years. We have sold at least one set to an owner of a 2013 non-ABS model, and as far as we know it worked out fine for him, since we haven't heard back from him since the purchase last year.

We are fairly confident it will fit your CB1100 without any issues. And we would even be happy to give you any technical assistance you may need if you do run into a problem."

Is there any hardware different in footrest brackets between ABS vs non-ABS and 2013 vs 2014 models? Appreciate any inputs here.

For those wondering why the rearset - it's for the track. I know, I know. It's too much fun to not do it on our beloved CB1100.

I thought about getting the Satos but then held off on them since I want a more relaxed rider triangle when on the CB. Although I did Check if the part numbers on the 13 and 14 are the same and 99% of them are the same between model years but the only one that is not is the ( HOLDER, R and L STEP) . Reason why they are different is because of just the color but same part physically, the 13's are silver and the 14's are black.

I say go for it and return back with your impressions. goodluck!

Alright then. Thanks dsan1964 and lola.

Beautiful motorcycle you got their lola - very tastefully done.

These rearsets are going to be my birthday gift from my wife, so it's a win-win Smile

I will report back after I get the unit installed!
Ordered!!

So I'm happy to report back!

The unit arrived within 2 days of order. Shipped from CA to Atlanta GA. Packaging was great, comes with 2 Sato Racing stickers as well Smile

The installation guide that came with the kit was pitiful, the only helpful thing in there was the schematic diagram. Matt had mentioned the guide was not so helpful, so I thought I'd put one together for them. I am uploading it here for our forum folks as well.

Some key notes:
1. If you want to install the rear brake switch light that comes with the kit. You will need to bleed the brake system. I skipped this step, because we disconnect the lights for the track anyways
2. This is not an adjustable rearset that some other samurider and webike units, these are set to lock in 40mm behind and above stock positions. You can only adjust the height of the shift/brake arms

How does it feel?
While the riding position has certainly become a lot more sportier; it's not too aggressive to cover couple hundred street miles on it. This is based on my little test ride only though - I'm 6ft tall.

This unit is nearly $300-$350 cheaper than the other Japanese units. But the quality of this product is great. They almost look like a stock unit when you are done mounting them.

The unit is pushed back and lifted up 40mm which feels like not much, but it'll help me stop dragging my toe in tight corners. Toe dragging on the track would snap me out of the moment and I'd end up losing the line and my precious momentum Smile

I'm really happy with the purchase, I hope ya'll benefit from this right up.
Uploading some pictures to show stance.

A picture of what I am trying to avoid. See how awfully close my feet would get to the asphalt. I am hoping these rearsets will help me fix it. Not to mention, having good cornering skills will certainly help more than the rearsets itself Smile

Nice. I always though about buying these (and actually wrote them and got basically the same response) but was kinda waiting for someone else to be first though the door. Thanks for the write-up.

If only those Merrells were out of the way to get a better view of the rear sets Smile

How is the shifting with the Satos? More direct feel no play?
I think with the rearset clearance issue sorted out those engine guards would be next, they look pretty close to touching down.

Awesome track photo! Thanks for sharing!

Nice job Harishsknair. So I'm guessing that you had no trouble fitting them to your '13??

I know its a little too late of a response. Went off the grid for a bit. But yes, I had no trouble fitting them. The stock brake switch wont work though, you'll need to use the ones that SATO sends along. But other than easy peasy.

I will be posting the rearsets for sale now. Going back to stock. Got me a track only R6 - when i said off the grid, i really meant getting the R6 track ready Smile
If anybody would like to purchase these rearsets, please do PM me. I'm working on pulling them out this weekend.
