My taillight mod almost done.....
#1

I realize some won’t like it,that’s fine with me. I’ve been working on this thing for about a year off an on. Right after I got my bike I started looking into replacing the taillight but based on the fact that the fender has provisions stamped into it for the taillight I’m pretty much limited as to what I could do. I took the stock taillight and cut a lot of it away, filled in the back side, used a small part of the base, completely reworked it and made a small bezel to cover the front taillight mount. I made to taillight mount from aluminum and molded that to flow into the taillight housing. Everything here is in primer and still needs a little more work but it’s close. I’m going to paint the bike in a few months, the front fender is from a 1983 CB1100F,if I can rework that to fit on the bike then both fenders will be body color, not sure what colors the taillight and brackets will be. This is what I started with, after I chopped it up I had the chrome stripped and started molding in the back. Everything on the backside of this housing is hand formed. [url=https://postimg.cc/PpzGHsDV][Image: b99ea5e7a31eb9813ccbcd35775f171e.jpg]

Well I don’t like it. If Honda wanted us to have that they would have put it on there. So there. And JUST KIDDING! I love it. Looks really cool.

How exactly did you hand mold it? With something like body filler? Or vacuum mold some plastic?

It’s a bezel I made to cover this raised area. To fill in the open area of the back of the taillight I bonded a piece of ABS plastic to the housing, filled the backside with fiberglass resin then shaped it. I used fiberglass to bond parts of it together then I used JB Weld as a filler, the stuff is hard as concrete once it sets up and easy to mold. Everything visible on the backside of the taillight is hand formed.

The stock taillight has 2 mounting points, the small bezel covers the area at the front of the stock taillight mount. If you look at the stock taillight here you can see the various parts I’ve used from it.

Beautiful workmanship, Flytym.

I'm trying to get my head round how to "mask" those holes on my CB750'd rear light mudguard - they're redundant holes like yours, although not quite the same - they're just two M8/M10 holes.
I have chromed coachbolts to fit, as I think that welding them, grinding smooth, then rechroming is just over-the-top for what I'm doing to the 'bike. But that's still an option.

I did get an estimate for smoothing out the fender, anywhere from $600-$1000. I do like the initial shape of the taillight, just don’t like how long it is.
