How to get a toaster tank look.
#1

My 2014 cb1100 std is modified to near perfection for me. Mag wheels, shocks, forks, tracker bars, all the chrome fidgets. The only things I’d really like, earls oil cooler kit, which seems like it might not be possible anymore, but more importantly, a toaster tank look. My bikes overseas all had the chrome side panels and rubber pads. So I want some ideas on how to copy the look.

I’ve seen the polished aluminum fugu tanks from White House. Honestly if the front of the tank was more naturally rounded, I would have gotten one already. I’ve talked to a few wrap people who don’t feel confident in the quality of chrome wrapped sides of the stock tank. What other ideas do people have? I know there was a Swiss guy who had his whole tank chromed. That’s on the table as well. This bike will never be sold, so price be damned.

Hey JLEECB, share some of that near perfection with the Forum?

I agree regarding rounded looking better for that kind of treatment.

It'd be pricey, but since "price be damned", I think it would look great if you used the Whitehouse K10 tank as a starting point for the modification. It would be fun to play around with photoshop to visualize it.

This is the bike as it sits. I wanted to get the ex forks powder coated but didn’t feel like tearing apart brand new equipment. Down the road when she needs a restore in many years I’ll probably powder a bunch of pieces.

I thought about the white house k10 tank. I would have to play around on photoshop. As much as I love the k10 full kits, my gut instinct is it wouldn’t quite fit what I want. I like the squared edges of the stock tank and fugu tank. If I can get the look I want, the sides will look like the squared edge chrome panels from my CD125 and CD175.

I’ve considered having vinyl wrap over the gas tank if I had it chromed. Does paint on chrome hold up well?

Lovely Yamaha. I suppose if I’m gonna do this, I gotta do it right and get proper knee pads made. Not that diamond pattern floor rubber some people use. That’ll be another challenge.
