Test Drove a Goldwing Tour DCT
#1
It's Friday night and my date is asleep. Thought I would share my experience with the 2018 Goldwing Tour with the automatic transmission - no clutch. My local Honda Dealer offered to let me ride one. "Sure" I said quickly. The first thing I noticed when I sat on it was how easy it was to bring the bike up to centre. With the bike on it's side stand I can lift it to centre with no hands. I couldn't flat foot the bike and that made me a bit nervous. The sales rep spent some time with me going through stuff on that transformer frame-mounted fairing. I didn't remember very much of it once we got going as I kept reaching for the clutch not sure how much throttle to give without the friction zone to temper it a bit. That became quite evident after traversing the gravel Honda dealership parking lot where we were to make a fairly abrupt left unto a paved road. In addition to that I got a little freaked out with the sensation that the bike was not turning left because the fairing was still pointing straight ahead. I figure you would get use to that fairly quickly. Did I mention I was nervous? That kind of fell away once we got going because it was sweeet. It started to rain and I remebered the electric windshield. Visor didn't even get wet by the time we got back. Never thought I would ever ride an automatic bike and so smooth, no disruption from shifting and that six cylinder power plant serving it up graceful and strong. Dream on...

Not my favourite tranny at all. Deal with them weekly. DCT was very promising but I think is loosing ground in US market due to problems among all automakers.
Given Honda quality and superior workmanship, I believe Wing will be trouble free.
In my opinion DCT is more considered standard than automatic: DCTs are twin gearboxes linked by a pair of clutches and there is no torque converter like ATM has.
Lash, can you give us update how you like DCT, no problems so far, how many km?

be careful and dont say "automatic".....honda hate this.....it has a clutch ....oh no even 2 of these !

automatic has no transmission

DCT is only : an automated transmission...switch you can still self every time....but with this lots sensors you can let it make from self too

the big hit; you can never kill the engine bcos to low rmp.....overrev when downshift is not possible, the electronic prohibits it...oh i like super braking with the engine....i guess my dealer needs never to change my brake-pads....LOL

edit:

by a automatic you cant use an enginebrake....

by cars with DCT or just by honda bikes with DCT (there are any diffrent models) you have still a button with +/- for switch the gears up and down

Is not my desire to go into into argument with any forum member Smile
I wish I had $1 for every standard tranny overhaul/rebuilt, $5 for every ATM repair, $10 for every DCT involvement...not to mention about $0.50 for all these tranny diagnose/troubleshoot
...I use my car's ATM for engine-braking every day Smile
As I said, I love your picturs Big GrinBig Grin + Big Grin

i dont know Honda produce DCT by bikes since any years ....2013 ? the sporttouring VFR1200 with 170hp was one of the first and of course in same time the NC models......(my Vultus , CTX, Integra has the same base like NC)

and by cars we know this technology already any years longer

I have DCT on my Africa Twin. All I can say is that it is brilliant! +1 for the bike not stalling. After a learning curve of about 15 minutes I came to appreciate how well the shift points had been selected and how the different drive modes were set up. Yes...it is an odd thing on a motorbike, but Honda has it dialed in. For me at least, zero issues with the DCT.
