some others brought it up in another thread about the new bikes being released, but I thought this would make in interesting topic on it's own merit
IF.. the Honda CB1100 didn't exist
what other bike or bikes would be on your radar for buying?

Ferret, I like your question and can list a few ideas of my own however I must add these are only if money is no object....the lovely wife has had too many "new vehicle" surprises and I don't think I can swing any of my other bike desires

Triumph Tiger Explorer
Ducati Scrambler
Yamaha Vmax 1200 (odd ball I know)
Moto Guzzi V7 café
Royal Enfield Continental GT

I already had a four-cylinder Honda so I wasn't wanting for one and would have been quite satisfied with what I had if the CB1100 had not appeared. But it was simply too good to even try and resist the temptation

I also Have a Triumph T100 so am not wanting in that category either.
But now that the new Triumph T120 is coming on the market...............
But I doubt that I will make the leap.

What caught my eye a year ago and got me thinking about a new and lighter bike was the Suzuki S40, I loved the retro look, but it was too small and kick start only. I noticed it at a dealer that was giving test rides on the not yet released Scout which I was in line to test drive. I knew I definitely wanted the retro look. I looked at T-100s, Scout and any other retro styled bike, except the CB1100. I went to a Honda dealer twice and he tried to sell me everything except the CB1100, I finally noticed one in the corner and asked him about it, the rest is history. My considerations were, Styling, weight reduction (from a Harley) performance and comfort. My short list came down to the Scout, Shadow and the CB. I didn't really want another Cruiser style bike, as I kept the Harley, so the CB was the obvious choice and I have no regrets buying it. A lot has changed in a year though. I fell in love with the Ducati Scrambler when it came out last spring and now the Moto Guzzi scrambler, both very sharp bikes in my eyes. If I were buying today, my short list would be different. Granted the CB is a bit heavier than the scramblers and i'm not sure about comfort on the scramblers (to be honest the jury is still out on the CB, comfort wise) I don't think I could forfeit the overall performance of the CB1100. I have had an opportunity to spend some time on my sons new T-100 and its a great bike, but its not a CB.....IMO

When this whole CB1100 thing started, I had in my garage an 06 Honda ST 1300, an 01 Yamaha FZ-1, a 2000 Honda Nighthawk 750 and an 06 Yamaha Majesty Scooter and thought my garage was perfect. Well, I would have liked to have had some kind of small enduro type bike in there too. However once rumors hit that the CB1100 was coming stateside I started to liquidate. The FZ-1 I sold to my younger brother .The Nighthawk went to a fellow that worked with my son! And I bought the 2013 CB. A year later they announced the Deluxe so I traded in the 13 CB and the 06 YPV and got the 14 dlx. If the CB 1100 had not come along, I would still have all 4 of the bikes I had before..PLUS probably that enduro I wanted. Lol
However in the future.. A few years down the road, I will be looking for a lightweight bike that would be good for around town and some light touring. Maybe an SV650, or Versys 650 LT, or NC 700 or Yamaha FZ09... Who knows. Will keep the CB, and even though I love my ST1300 and plan to put 100,000 miles on it, i am starting to feel the weight when backing it out of the gatage, or hefting it off the side stand, and I rarely put it on the centerstand anymore. At 717 pounds, it"s just too heavy.

I have it. A 2009 Moto Guzzi v7 Classic.
If it was available, a Kawasaki W800 would be nice.
