I originally wired mine direct to the battery, but then decided I wanted it to switch off with the ignition. I found what I think is a spare connector for heated grips in "the headlight of doom" and connected it to that.

I wired mine to my battery, but never thought about it not switching off with the ignition...that's a good idea!
The USB did say 5 volt and it kept my big Samsung Note 1 phone pegged at 100% charge the whole time, I wish my car and truck chargers would do that. With GPS on, they can't even keep up. Maybe I'm over charging my phone and just didn't know it, but 100% sure was nice!

If I'm using the phone as a GPS, which drains the battery really quickly, the CB will still charge it and then maintain it.

There is an accessory plug in the headlight shell and another back in the battery area. I'm pretty sure they are switched, but will have to verify on the wiring diagram.

The wire diagram is in the service manual that can be purchased at any Honda dealer, or ordered directly from Helm.

I think they have always looked like that. I recently replaced my right side handlebar switch (the kill and start switch assembly) on my 1978 CB400T and the wires end at a connector inside the headlight bowl. When I opened the headlight I was surprised how sloppy the wiring looked, like someone jury-rigged everything. I'm slightly exaggerating, but you kinda just stuff everything back in and kinda slam the headlight back onto the housing and cross your fingers you didn't crimp something!

I haven't seen the inside of a "14 CB headlight shell, but the inside of of the '13 is nice and neat. The accessory connector is red and has a protective plug in it.

It's been posted before, but be a little careful when removing the light. You have to tip it out some from the bottom and lift it off the shell. Don't break the plastic rings! Its easy to take off though and there are alignment arrows for the headlight adjustment on the left side. Make note of the alignment.
