Question on circuit boards
#1
The final thing I need to fix after sliding out on my 2014 CB1100 standard is a small circuit board on my instruments (meter) that has a damaged connector. The entire meter assembly is about $600 but I am trying to get away cheaper. They don't seem to show the individual circuit boards on the parts lists. One connector got damaged. It is for the ribbon cable that contains the tachometer. Someone told me it is not that hard to remove the solder and solder a new one on. I was told by an electronics repair place I should be able to find one at the digi-key.com website but they have hundreds of connectors for sale.

Any electronics gurus out there know what the tachometer's ribbon cable connector would be? My buddy is an electronics technician so he could probably help me. The industrial electronics repair places I spoke with seem to be afraid of liability issues for repairing a circuit board from a motorcycle.

Searcher, can you post a pic of the connector? And any numbers that may be on it. Ribbon and edge connectors are usually pretty easy to find.

To add to my above reply, another option, if you can't fiind a connector, would be to remove the connectors and solder the ribbon wires directly to the board.

I'm a tech too, and there are others on the board here.

If you find the part number DigiKey is a good source, if they don't have it try Mouser or findchips.com. If it's a through hole connector is should be very easy for your friend to fix, but even if it's surface mount he probably can.

Thanks for the info. I will try to post a picture. The wiring diagram in the service manual shows the tachometer and thermistor being on that cable, along with other things but everything else seems to be working except for the tach. I guess the thermistor is a safety feature as it shows it being attached to the fuel pump.
