As yet I believe the answer is no. Others will chime in I'm sure. I think it will be mandated and a Google search says Honda is going to be going to OBD.
Usually the manual says to connect the HDS ( Honda diagnostic system). It is EXPENSIVE and only available to dealers so says my dealer. I have one made by Healtech that jacks into the diagnostic port and a PC running the Healtech software. It works great.
Don't know about the '17, but on earlier bikes the diagnostic connector is under the left side panel.
You can have the light flash the codes. I don't remember how. It is one of those put the kickstand down. Turn around 3 times then hit the kill switch and say "Cormanus commands you"

and the codes will flash in a sequence that shows the code.
Actually it is easy to put in the flash mode but I will have to look up how unless someone else posts it up. I think it only flashes the major code, not the subcode. The reader will get that.
OK, here is how to do it ---

If you do that, I suggest you video it with your phone to post here if needed as sometimes it is a tad hard to tell the first digit, then the separator flash or wait, then the second digit flashes.
