Dragging

Confession.
Rode in to work this morning and hit the city streets just before 7am.
It was still dark and I came up to a set of red lights. A v8 Holden statesman was already waiting in the right lane.
The lanes merge into one after the lights and I stopped left to the statesman with the intention of quickly pulling away and getting in front.
I watched the crossing road lights turn yellow and saw the statesman nudge forward.
Our lights turned green and in that split second I realised the driver probably did not want me to be the first across the lights.
I don't know what came over me - I twisted the throttle hard, at the same time hearing a mighty roar from the Holden. It wasn't my best pull away but I got in front and we parted ways at the next intersection.
Thinking about it afterwards I felt quite stupid but also could not deny the rush of the moment.
I am a responsible rider, really I am. I wil not let myself be dragged into dragging again. soon.

Any other dragging stories out there?

You did the only thing any self-respecting CB rider would do: you put the cager in his place by demonstrating how hopelessly outclassed his "V8 Holden" was. Next time he won't cuss with the bike.

What is a Holden statesman? Edit never mind googled it, It's a Chevrolet Caprice here in the states.

The CB would out run most ANY automobile you are likely to run into in daily driving, up to 60 mph I would think. There are some mighty fast cars, but they generally are not used for commuting.

If you do happen to come up next to a Lingenfelter Chevrolet Corvette save your energy cause he's going to smoke you with a 0-60 in 1.97 secs and 9.1 quarter mile ..however I think the odds of that happening are astronomical. However if you pull up next to a VW Superb Beetle ( more likely to happen) feel free play with it..0-60 in 23.7 and it will take over a quarter mile for it to hit 60 lol

Ferret it is true with MOST vehicles around here, but waaay too many people have too much money in this valley so with me it is much more common to run across a car that would eat me up on the bike. In the "down under"....who knows.

What type of car did Mad Max drive in the original movie and the first part of the second movie? In that version of post-apocalyptic Australia it was claimed to be the "last of the V-8 Interceptors" and it had a blower. I believe that it was more than a match for "Toe-Cutter's" bike (which, if memory serves, may have been a KZ1000 Kawi).

Randy...just wait until the fast car is in one of those famous traffic jams I experienced while out there and then blow by him while lane splitting..only be more careful next time.

Sorry no road kill stories with a CB yet. I try to keep racing off the street on the strip. I have a special tool for this kind of work - an 1800 lbs rear drive special with 175 rwhp:-)

I still think the CB is not the strongest and fastest but it would suprise a lot of cars. I also fully understand the urge to kill the Holden. You did nothing wrong. Just play it safe and have fun:-)

Oh, Holdens. As much as I dislike GM I'd drive a Ute (here in the US, where they don't belong) for the shock factor.

As most decent (read: first-gen Accord Hybrids, my Acura, Tundra) cars get to 60 in about 6.5 seconds, the CB's 3.3 has the advantage. You have to pay a LOT of money to get something that accelerates as well as the CB1100.

Nope. I got a letter from the insurance company late last week stating that they were holding up the claim because they had not received a copy of the police report yet. It never ends...I swear.
