Riding the CB on the way in to the office this morning, I rolled up to a road crew on a side street I often take on the bike. Flagmen were stopping traffic as they worked at sawing the concrete in the opposite lane. I got my turn to go, and realized too late that the water they use with the saw was running off over my side of the road - mixed with the powder from the sawing, a literal river of liquid concrete. I didn't think too much about it until I got to work, and noticed what looked like white paint all over my front tire. That, unfortunately, was just the tip of the iceberg; everything in line with the tire, from the front fender to the underside of the triple tree, to the rear wheel, and everything front-or-down facing in between was covered.
This was after I'd already cleaned the headers and the front of the engine from the oil filter up:

What a mess. I feel like my bike just lost its "new" virginity.

If you want to put it like that then mine is making "adult" movies.
Cheers

Is this an awful thing to say on this forum, but, after the initial irritation and sadness, I always feel just the faintest sense of relief when this sort of thing happens. I find it reduces the tendency to obsess about keeping the bike perfect and makes it easier just to get on with riding it.
Papa Weeley, don't get me wrong, I feel for you. But, hey, it's a bike for riding on the road and it's going to suffer some wear and tear.

Had a similar experience back in March after a rain. I rode across a stretch of pavement out in the hills where a rancher had recently driven a heard of cattle across the road from one pasture to another. My beauty's undercarriage was splattered with.......cowsh!t. My wife got home after me and when she came in from the garage she asked, what's that smell?

It's like when I drove my new car down a freshly "chip and sealed" road.

Oh man, that sucks! I sure hope it comes off for you... I trashed the engine finish on my VStrom in a similar fashion, and it was never the same again. It would help if I weren't so anal-retentive about keeping the bike clean of course, but that's just the way I am...

Ha - Cormanus, I know what you mean, BUT - Spaceman, unfortunately, I'm more like you.
The bike spent the day in my office (note the carpeting and houseplant in the above pics), where I spent much more time cleaning her than I did any true office work!
It's in 99% better shape than it was, but unfortunately there's some cracks and crevices that are just too inaccessible to shop rags...

Bummer. Would a stiff bristled brush get into those cracks and crevices?
