To me the '14 looks better. Especially with '13 switch controls and blinkers swapped on.

The '17 will have better suspension, a slipper clutch, and should sound a bit better due to exhaust changes.

Check replacement parts cost if that is a concern. Example- the '14 headlight is just a cheap bulb. What's the cost to fix the '17 headlight?

What are the prices? You can't go wrong with either one.

The 2017 clutch assist feature allows a lighter clutch lever pull, but IMHO, the LED headlight beam is worse than previous years' H4 bulbs.

I didn't care for the wire spoke wheels. Disc brake dust etches into the spokes and they are harder to keep clean. I swapped my 2017 EX wire wheels for DLX cast wheels, but it was pretty involved.

The 2017 is also lighter than the 2014DLX, due mostly to the lighter exhaust system.

I had a '14 standard (the black one) and currently own a '17ex. Not a direct comparison between the DLX and the EX, but my bottom line thought is that I like riding the '17 just as much as I did the '14. I think after you buy one or the other, you won't regret not having bought the unchosen.

I am not a motorcycle connoisseur as to the finer details of a bike. For me, the differences are 3:

1) the '17 absorbs road abnormalities better than the standard; the '17 is more "plush" but the '14 feel was never annoying. 2) I spend time cleaning the spoke rims on the '17 that I never did on the '14. Would cleaning the spokes bother you? Would you even bother to clean them? 3) the look of the tank--for me, this is the biggest difference. Obvioulsy the standard tank is black, but I'm thinking more of the look, not the color. The '17's curves vs. the '14's box-like lines. Which look is more appealing to you? Buy that one!
