Helmet shredded picture...
#1
Saw this picture on Facebook, no story behind it, guess it could happen if you were dragged down the highway or something, makes me wince just looking at it.
Think it's from actual accident or ground away to prove a point?

I think it's fake. No way could you slide that long in 1 position, without rolling or tumbling. Look how flatly it's ground. I would have trouble keeping it that even on a belt sander.

Safety Nazi propaganda imo.

Color me skeptical

And don't get me wrong, I believe in helmets and their ability to save your life in certain circumstances and wear one 100% of the time ( personal choice). I have seen helmets that were in real accidents and heads that were in accidents without helmets. No doubt it's better to be wearing one than not, but it's a personal decision and there is no sense to exaggerate.

That helmet would have had to been wedged under a moving vehicle for a quite an extended period to be so damaged. I'm not eliminating the possibility of such an occurrence but I think it highly unlikely.

I would go wit fake as well. This pic already made the rounds on my local sport bike forum and this seems to be the general concensus.

I'm sure this could happen from prolonged contact with the road, but I doubt it happened while actually attached to a rider's head (since it would mean doing a headspin for like 200 feet. Thinking it's something like being strapped too low on a bike, or being dragged some other way during storage.

My guess is the rider had an accident alright.....with a reciprocating saw.

No, couldn't get it that straight with a reciprocating saw or even a band saw. Looks more like a very large table saw.

My guess is that he got into a bit of an accident with it (thus the scrapes on the side) and then decided to see what it looks like on the inside since he was trashing it anyway.

Just a thought, could it have been locked on the bike's helmet lock? As on the side of the CB, thus it would have been pinned between the bike and the ground (I see people doing this almost daily), continuing the assumption that the bike was dragged some great distance. I have heard stories (one personally experienced, though it didn't actually involve me) of people being drug great distances by trains, buses, etc, without the driver knowing. This theory kinda of makes sense with the position of the scrape. The worst part of this theory is, we must also assume that the rider was in some horrendous accident... not wearing the helmet...

Not to ruin the fun, but came across this in a quick google search. It is from reddit, so not necessarily authentic, but interesting none the less: https://www.reddit.com/r/wtf/comments/1j72st/
