1178 miles later
#1
I bought the CB on a whim. I really did. I stumbled across it in a shop while hunting for parts for my DRZ..

I instantly fell in love with its looks.

Now 1178 miles later I'm in love with its everything. It has reminded me of all the things I ride for, all the fun riding is, and brought me back to a simpler vision of riding.

My kitted out BMW was, now that I'm looking back, way too much like driving a car. All that size, weight, storage, and tech.. Too much, just too much..

The CB is a clutter free ride, a reminder of what I love about riding.

Is it more work on my 44 year old body than the BMW? Yes it is. And I love it..

Cheers.

I'm with you. I've loved all my motorcycles but there's something special about the CB. About how it makes me feel while riding. My wife occasionally points out a big Harley bagger or Goldwing and suggests I get something like that so she'll be more comfortable on back. My mind goes more towards the Moto Guzzi California or Kawasaki Concourse but, regardless, my answer is always, "That wouldn't be bad ... as long as I can keep my CB."

same here, I have a coworker looking to buy a motorcycle, when he saw my CB, he said "I thought you were a sport bike guy?" It's hard for me to explain to him how the CB makes me feel owning and riding it...I had sport bikes for 20+ years....the CB is just fun and relaxing for me to ride.
I would not try to persuade him to get a CB, I guess you either get it or you don't....

I spent the last year agonizing over the choice to buy a Thruxton or Bonneville, then I found pics of old CB750's and thought the four headers coming out the front of the bike looked wicked. As I regularly checked the local shop for used Triumphs, I saw a used CB1100 with 396 miles on it and bought the bike over the phone for $6900. A month later got my M cert and have been riding and loving it ever since! So, unlike most of you old guys in the forums, I never had an old honda as a kid nor did I really know anything about them until I owned one. But I love mine!

Well, first welcome to the party rider.. Be smart, be safe, and enjoy..

Now, You've made a horrible mistake.. Thumbs Up Oh, no don't get me wrong.. The CB is a stellar bike, but see that is the problem... now you're as trapped as we (us old guys) are..

I've spent been riding for 25 years.. and in that time I've had 14 bikes. The first two (1978 Kawasaki KZ650 and then a 1983 Honda CB750F) ruined me for all other bikes.. There is a feeling, a sensation, that riding a big, simple, standard 4 cylinder, chain driven, bike (Honda in particular) gives you that nothing else offers. Nothing.. Heck from 1991 to a month ago, without really knowing it, I've been chasing that feeling.

There are faster bikes, better bikes, more this or that bikes, but nothing rides like one of these.. It's weird and awesome..

Have fun.. Biker

A LOT of people here feel the same as you do. I started out on Honda CBs in the 70s. I came back to this retro CB after about 8 BMWs. I too, got very tired of all the technology BMW is cramming down our throats and my idea of motorcycle riding isn't turning a handlebar mounted dial to page through a couple of menus.

At work I have a dozen or more programs running at the same time and stare at 6 computer screens. I want to get away from all that when I go for a ride.

Same thing for me.

I'm the same age and the CBs look like the bikes that I fell in love with as a kid.

The CB feels like a pure motorcycle.... and not trying to being anything it isn't.
