2017 Triumphs/Bent Brake Lever/Motocycle lift etc...a miss-mash of comments

Saturday early I ran down to the Salt Lake City Triumph/BMW/Ducati dealer and took a look around. Ducati is making absolutely nothing that interests me. styling is too far off the map for me. BMW's R9T continues to interest me. Again, from the headlamp to the back of the seat the bike appears solidly 60-ish..beyond that were back to the 2010+ sport bike insect look. Of the Three versions they make...the bone stock Aircraft grey tanked version appeals the most to me.

Triumph's Bobber is just a cool little machine. Actually, diminutive may be a better descriptor. The fit and finish exudes quality. I didn't ride it but fired it up. Smooth running motor, exhaust is not oppressive. Very cool how the instrument cluster can be adjusted for tilt. I REALLY liked that feature.

I also checked out the Café version of the Street Twin. 900cc with nicely styled fairing, seat cowl and twin exhaust. If they made it in red and silver I might have bit down hard on the hook.

When the daughters boyfriend laid my CB1100 down on black ice in Tin Cup Canyon, Wy last November during Veterans Day weekend he did some very minor damage. One thing was the foot brake lever was bent. So, after I came home from the Triumph dealer I pulled it off yesterday and surprisingly there was more to it than I thought. After disconnecting springs and some hosing I had the lever free and took it to the anvil and pounded it back straight with a hard rubber mallet. Looks almost factory new now. Also was going to reset the handle bars because I thought they tweaked a little in the mounts and found two of the four allen bolts loose (one on each side). Glad I checked that.

One other thing I need to do is order a handlebar brake lever. When he laid it down on its right side the brake lever end ground down about 25% on the little ball the RLETS cover. I cut that off with about 2 inches of lever, smoothed it off with a bench grinder and drilled it out for a chain. It's now his key fob. Gave it to him as a Christmas Gift to remind him of his first (and hopefully last) bike wreck.

After that I cleaned the bike up pretty good. Put a coat of wax on the tank, buffed out the muffler and waxed the chain. I need to order a Pilot Road 3 for the front this week from Revzilla and have it mounted maybe next week. Also need to knock out an oil change and the CB will be ready for the season. The Harbor Freight lift continues to endear itself to me every time I put a bike on it to clean or do maint. Man is it nice to have the bike at waist level!

The R9T doesn't do it for me at all. It looks like it was designed by a committee. I'll have to go down and check out the Triumphs one of these days though.

Good to hear you only had minor damage to the CB and that your daughter's boyfriend is ok too.

I'm envious of guys with bike lifts, but I don't have room for one. Tired of squatting, my knees can't take it anymore lol

Be careful checking out those Triumphs or you'll wind up like me with two of them. Great fit and finish, smooth, torquey engine and good exhaust note. Not your father's Triumph anymore.

if you google, there is a plan out there for a wooden bike "table" with ramp that bolts together and thus apart as well and stores away nicely. a friend of mine built one, but he moved away

With a truck, 2 motorcycles, a quad with snow plow,a good sized workbench, a regigerator, and a chest type freezer in my 2 car garage, I'm afraid I wouldn't even have room for that lol.

The R9T captured my attention at the first rally. Looked better in person vs on line or the magazines.

Recently, the Triumph Thurxton R is one I'd like to test drive. Local dealer said he'll have one in April Wink

It reminds me of a café racer I built in the late 60s.



Was great fun when I was 20 something and willing to spend twice what the bike cost me for racing parts and fibreglass imported from Britain.

Hey, wait a minute; idea #2. Clear a spot for one of those ready built garages or sheds. Around here if you don't attach them to the house; they can't increase your tax assessment. Neighbor down the road got a 12'x20'. Pretty cool. They literally slid it off a trailer.

I like the red, but the silver version is drawing me in. The fairing is cool, but when I look at the front profile, just doesn't do it for me.

Try one of these mechanics seats. I just bought an inexpensive one and now I'm ready to get an adjustable one.
