I'm thinking of selling my Honda CB1100. Since I got the Yamaha, I'm not riding the Honda much, and as summer gets here I'm starting to crave a sailboat again. I've spoken with a neighbor who has a small sailboat, a 16 footer, and I've sailed on it with him a couple of times. I hit him up with "How would you like to partner on a boat with me?" We'll get one something in the range of 18-22 ft. something with a bit of interior room and a bigger cockpit, easier to handle. We could store it in a "mast up" yard right on the lake so we wouldn't 'have to put the mast up and take it down every time we wanted to sail. He's very interested, and we're going to start looking at boats. There are a lot lakes in TX, so the supply is good. We'd be able to take it down to the gulf, too.

That is a significant "fork". Motorcycle <--> Sailboat.
Having an orphaned bike is a bit of idle waste.

I hope you are great mates! Have a little contract/understanding between yourselves about what happens if one of you loses interest or cannot use it for any reason. These joint ownerships can be very fraught. Even small things like who pays the insurance excess if one or the other damages the boat can cause a falling out. :-0

Boats always have a soft spot in my heart… because of my grandfather and uncle.
Good luck in achieving your goal!

My father in law joined with two other guys to buy an airplane.
Just so happens he was the one that picked up the plane at purchase and flew it several states to their new hanger.
He landed….but forgot to put down the wheels.
I would have loved to have heard all the conversations that happened afterwards…. for many months I am sure…. with the authorities, the airport, the insurance, the repair people, his wife….and yea- the other 2 guys…

Can you imagine, the stress of telling the other two fellas! Would of been funny if they were there to watch him land. "Put the wheels down, the wheels down man!" at the top of their voices.

One of the most expensive parts of a wheels-up landing is when the engine is still turning over and the prop strikes the ground. That requires an expensive, complete engine overhaul. I don't know if that happened in this case, but I don't see how it could not have happened.
It is something the pilot will remember every landing after that.

Ha! I already have several popguns; .22, .38, .380 auto, 20 gauge pump. I've also had a few sailboats when I lived in SoCal; 12ft. 16ft, 22ft, 30ft, 40ft. Been without one for a few years now, and since I now live very near a Texas lake, the itch has come back.
My partner and I had a meeting yesterday, as a matter of fact. Decided Houston was too far to go look at a small boat. Anyone who has had one knows the feeling, an empty space in the gut. I've been around boats all my life; as a kid my parents had three over the course of several years, and when I was in the army during the Nam era, I was stationed on an army tugboat in Thailand for two years. I wrote my first novel based on my time there. "The Bangkok Blues" is available on Amazon.
