How Accurate?

Toggled to B and it said I had gone 207.3 miles on this tank



toggled again it said I averaged 55.8 mpg on this tank



toggled again and it said I had used 3.7 gals gas



filled it up as normal to the bottom of the neck



turned around and checked the pump and I had put in 3.69 gallons of gas



With calculator 207.3 miles divided by 3.69 gals = 56.1 mpg (computer said 55.8)
Fuel pump said I filled up with 3.69 gallons of gas (computer said I used 3.7)

That's pretty darn accurate if you ask me

(still had approx .9 gallon of gas in the tank I am assuming for a 4.6 gallon tank or about 49 miles at 55 mpg... computer said 39 miles left)

I would kill for this kind of mileage. Lots of city riding and heavy throttle nets me ~40mpg if I'm lucky. Sometimes I'm on my last bar before 100 miles.

I've seen as high as 185 miles on my 2014ex. Tank was nearly bone dry, not sure how I managed to make it home.

I have not yet had a tank below 50 mpg on my 2017 EX at about 1100 miles total. Last tank was 56 mpg (calculated, not indicated).

Fantastic efficiency, I'd say.

That's good info, cruising around town (not much traffic) I get 50MPG, on the open road at 55-65 MPH I get right at 59mpg. None of that applies if I roll on the throttle a lot.

the point wasn't how many mpg I could get or how far I could go on a tank.. but HOW ACCURATE the fuel computer is on this thing.

I've seen as high as 185 miles on my 2014ex. Tank was nearly bone dry, not sure how I managed to make it home.

No need for anything so drastic. Simply twist the loud handle more gently and slow waaaaaay the heck down, to mickey speeds, and you'll be right there.

This is so strange...I just got back from a ride and before I started I filled the tank and with calculator figured out I got 40mpg on my previous 96 miles. I thought to myself, "I'll bet The ferret uses the indicated mpg and that's why his is always so high". I was sure that Honda's indicated mpg was "generous" 'cause I had read an article that many car mpg readings were off by more than 10%. I was even going to pm Ferret just to ask about that, and then I see your post.

So question: I know there's lots of factors that can affect mpg. But let's assume that Ferrret and I ride pretty much the same. Let's say we have equally hilly areas. Let's assume also that we go for similar rides where speeds vary mostly from 45-60. Let's assume that we both have correct tire pressure. Is it normal for one CB1100 to get low 40 mpg and another to get low to mid 50mpg? I mean, that's about a 22-24% difference. I have a '17 EX and I had the '14 standard, both low 40mpg.

You guys getting 55mpg or more...please come visit, stay at my home a few days, eat my food, drink my beer, and let's ride and compare notes.

I started tracking and recording my CB1100 gasoline mileage starting near the end of my 600 mile break-in period. I used trip computer A for tank to tank mileage, and trip computer B for accumulating miles. I also compared the trip computer calculated mileage compared to my calculations. What I found is the trip computer tank to tank mileage can vary due to many reasons. But it is still a decent indicator.
I was more interested over a long term/accumulative mileage using trip computer B. Over 890 miles, my trip computer B displayed 52.2 mpg. Actual computed mileage was slightly better at 53.3 mpg. A small difference (Trip B being lower mpg vs calculated) was consistent throughout.

I have a '13, so I'll take your word on the accuracy My fuel computer is in my head, although sometimes the accuracy slips.

Today I was on the CB750, which I haven't ridden out of town in several months. My brain powered fuel computer was stuck on my city riding mileage, which averages about 40 (i have a heavy wrist). Imagine my surprise when I stopped for fuel and only put 2.75 gallons in my 4.8 gallon tank (actual was 51.5 mpg).

I tend to spend too much time worrying about fuel on long trips. Might be nice to have a really accurate gadget like that to take out the guesswork.
