Bell Vortex full face

Just wondering if anybody has one of these and what they think of it. I am shopping for a new lid and was looking in this price range. HJC makes a CL-17 that looks pretty nice and gets good reviews as well. Curious if any of you guys have one of those and what you think of them. Thanks.

I was going to recommend what I wear until I saw the price of the Vortex. Are Bells any good? I'd wear one on a bicycle, sure. Don't mean to make an unhelpful post but at <$200 how helpful can it be? Surely there's a reason Shoeis are >$500?

Not at all. I just dont know myself. I have on older Shoei now that has been really good but its 10 years old and I thought it was time to replace it after that long. I need someone to give me helmets 101 I guess. I was just hoping to get something decent and not break the bank. I am just so used to a full face I cant really consider anything else because I dont have any type of wind screen so I like the protection they give.

Wish I could help. Give us a review if you get one. I like Arai but mostly because they fit my pumpkin head best. I would have loved to be able to use an HJC - much more economical - but the shape didn't work.

I love my Shoei RF1100. Now that the RF1200 is out there are great deals to be had on remaining stock.

I've heard the Shoei Qwest is a good lid too. For the same reason - I think they're being discontinued or revamped or something.

But the reviews are pretty good and it's discounted from list, which is like $500. If my Arai Quantum was older, I'd probably give it a whirl.

I bought 4 or 5 helmets last year, ended up keeping two, both have the built in slide down sun shield, I love it, would not wear a helmet now that does not have one.
Not sure how I rode years ago without one.
So that is my one piece of advice, please consider a helmet with a separate sun shield.

dot is dot and snell is snell.... if a helmet meets the requirements of the respective testing labs, it meets the requirements. Doesn't matter if it cost $50 or $500.

What's the difference between a $100 Snell certified helmet and a $400 Snell certified helmet?

While helmets are primarily a protective device, the true protective capabilities of a helmet, if needed will only come into play for about 2 to 4 milliseconds during the lifetime of the helmet. This leaves a lot of time for that helmet to be doing nothing more than sitting around on a user's head. Producing a product that meets the standards is not really very difficult. Producing a helmet that people will buy and wear, and will consistently meet the standards is significantly more difficult. The Snell Standards do not measure factors like comfort, ventilation, brand recognition or style, and only indirectly look at fit, weight, materials and workmanship. These are factors that frequently drive helmet cost.
