My riding season is from May to October. But in May I only had time for 2 rides. We sold our house and had to pack and move everything into 2 1/2 months of storage until our new house was available. Fortunately Penny's sister took us in.
June was a beautiful month as usual here, and I managed to escape for 4 rides while the girls were at work.
But this summer has been terribly hot and muggy. As I am unwilling to ride in a T-shirt and shorts, the bike has just sat in the garage.
Mid-August we took possession of our new house, and began moving everything back in. Not finished yet, but livable.
Still dealing with the utility companies. The cell phone droid generations are the dumbest things I have ever had to deal with for business. They use to tell us not to trust anyone over 50. Now you can't trust anyone under 50 to get it right. Despite several phone calls, e-mails, and visits to their website our cable company still refers to me as Penny.
Mid August is usually the cooling off period for summer here. But the heat and humidity persist. Tomorrow will reach 90F but feel like 109F with a 40% chance of strong thunderstorms.
Ordinarily I ride 11,000 to 12,000 kilometers a season. But to date have only managed 2765. I sure hope we have a long and warm fall so I can get those new Bridgestone tires broken in.

If you're into the whole ATTGATT scene, It sounds like you need some ultralight mesh gear so that the heat doesn't bother you so much. I don't ever wear shorts, but i've been known to go without a jacket due to heat. I recently got a mesh jacket and haven't ridden without it since, even in 90+ degree beating sun. the wind really cures all ailments. You might get to ride more if you get something mesh.

I hear you loud and clear about the oppressive weather this summer.
I too consider the summer wasted due to the heat and humidity and I too will not ride in a T-shirt - so I guess that means I don't ride.
I'm sure those who live in southern areas and face this all the time are laughing at us, but it's too much for me and we're being told to expect more of this in the future.

Can't believe it's September already. It snowed on Pikes Peak yesterday and the road up Mt Evans is now closed for the season. Trail Ridge Rd over Rocky Mountain National Park will be closing soon too. A few more weeks of decent riding for me before we start getting snow at my elevation. Two local ski resorts compete each year for bragging rights as to who opens first. That'll be happening in another 4-5 weeks.

Well, I am in Orlando Florida and am 100% ATGATT, except usually I wear normal pants. I ride nearly everyday. It has been quite rainy lately though. I highly recommend a mesh jacket. Check out Joe Rocket and others for some pretty inexpensive mesh alternatives with good protection. As long as you are moving you are quite cool. I am trying to feel for you up in Ontario, but I am having a hard time doing so.
Get the jacket and get riding. My recollection of Ontario was that there was no fall

Nortoon, Things will settle down for you after the move and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Yes, all the gear when riding. I have a mesh jacket with a zip-out liner so that works for me. Pants, boots, gloves and never shorts. I'd rather replace a jacket or pants rather than my skin. Things happen when you least expect it so, always be ready with the gear. We moved in 2 months after being in a house for over 35 years. An epic move and worth all the effort!

I have a mesh jacket, but even in that I find it too hot and sticky to be comfortable so I don't bother to ride during the day. Sometimes I can get out in the early morning before the sun is well up.
I guess you have to realize that us up here in Eskimo land are used to cooler temps and this oppressive heat is foreign to us and we have no tolerance for it.

I agree about the mesh jacket. It's made all the difference for me this year. I got a Joe Rocket one and it's not much worse than wearing a teeshirt. Actually better because it's more sun protection.
Earlier in the summer I wore it riding to work one morning and didn't think twice that it was 63f when I left. 45 minute ride and I was pretty cold by the time I got there.

Born and raised in Hotflatistan. Just like you can't stand the heat, l would be misserable in the snow. I choose my riding loops to avoid stop and go traffic as much as possible to keep moving. Sitting at a red light surrounded by cagers, on a black bike with a black helmet gets really hot real fast. I wear heavy duty jeans, long sleeve shirt with a DOT vest and boots. Never wear shorts. Mother Nature is very angry with mankind as a whole and she is pushing back hard. Can you say global warming?

Nortoon, as one who lives in a place where it gets pretty hot in the summer, I would not be without my RST mesh jacket. It has both waterproof and thermal liners both of which zip out easily. The jacket itself has armour in the back, shoulders and elbows and is a great deal more comfortable to wear riding in hot weather than something that doesn't allow the air through.
