Calendar Submissions for 2023
#1

Well, I said I would start a little earlier this year and I meant it. I just turned the page on the 2022 CB1100 Forum Calendar to March and realized that the winter slowdown is almost over and many of you that packed away your bikes are going to be getting back out there very soon.

So, with that in mind, I want to officially open submissions for the 2023 Calendar and give everybody the chance to start dusting off their DSLRs and thinking of cool places and cool shots to take. As with last year, We're looking for high resolution, high quality photos that will look smashing as a full page print. Unique angles, Unique locations, and Unique bikes are a big bonus, but we also want examples of stock bikes living life to the fullest!!

Some things that didn't quite make it into the calendar last year:

* A Dirty CB!! come on....where's the hardcore neverwashers? I would love a good example of this on at least one monthly spread

* An RS model. These unique and wonderful variants of our bike out there, even though we're not allowed to have them in The USA. I'm sure some of you would love to submit yours

* A Heavily customized CB. Is it a work of art or an abomination?? I've got to find out, in the name of variety

* Good photography of a CB in a state of Disassembly or repair. I'm not talking about cellphone shots of your CB with the gas tank off in your garage. If anybody is in the middle of a big modification or repair project, I would love to be able to include an artfully arranged full page spread of that.

As before, all submissions should be original photos of your bike. This is important because the calendar has a kind of personal touch to each page. This is a cool and close group, so I'm featuring the user as much as I'm featuring the bike. Also, Please don't submit any photos that you've already posted on the forum anywhere. People pay good money to help get this calendar printed and it's important that I deliver a unique photo album on the finished product so that it's worth it.

I'm going to be accepting photos and storing them away all year long, aiming for a print run sometime in October. This will give time for me to do a second print run if demand is high enough, and it will give time for our poor unfortunate friends in far-flung Nations like Australia and southeast Asia a chance to actually recieve their calendars on time (I am so so sorry Cormanus/Noroomtomove).

Thanks everybody! Hope to see you in the pages. Biker

Once again, Mr P, no apology is necessary. You are not to blame for Covid and the havoc it wreaked on the world’s communications. At least, I don’t think you are.

Here we are halfway through the year 2022 and I've gotten a few submissions for potential monthly features, but I need more! If any of you are out with your cameras (something higher rez than a cellphone) and you have any pictures of your CB1100 you think are great but haven't been posted on the forum yet, please send them my way via PM!

As stated above, I'd love to get some images that fall into some of those special categories too.

Some other ideas for the upcoming 2023 Calendar pages:

Dragon Shots: This year's rally is going to take place in the western NC mountains and multiple riding days will carry our bikes through the Dragon, where high definition skilled photographers are waiting around every corner to take stellar shots. If enough of us are on the dragon, and enough of us have photos taken that we like enough to show off, I'd love to collect all those shots for a very special feature this year. I'm even considering using it on the cover. For those of you attending the rally: keep this in mind!! ALSO, if you have existing shots of yourself on your CB1100 on the Dragon already please submit those to me via PM. They don't all have to be from the rally. We got one shot from the big D last year (kiowaeagle) and it made a great spread for April, so I definitely want to see all these. Even if you don't want to buy the shots, at least identify your pics on the photog website and i'll pay for them if they're really too good to pass up.

The C-B-'Leven-Hunnit Clandar: Another post here on the forum gave me a rad idea and I want to measure support and interest for it. I'm thinking of making a small flipbook desk companion calendar to sell at a cheaper price point than the full sized book, full of little kids crayon drawings of CB1100s. I call it the "Clandar." It would be a cute little 8.5" x 5.5" job. I haven't fully fleshed out this idea yet because I need a source for the "artwork," but if there's interest and desire It's nothing I can't pull together. All I would need is an intrepid little kid or two with a box of crayons and some free time willing to draw CB1100's for me. I'm sure some of you have kids and grandkids you can put to work. See the examples of format and "artwork" below.

As for formatting on the main official calendar, I'm going to spice it up a bit this year....wait and see. From what I can tell browsing my printing provider from last year, prices should remain largely the same as well, so no worries there.

to review: SEND YOUR PICTURES!!! Thanks

haha it could be, just send over the goods and let me review them! What I'm looking for is resolution and focal crispness that's high enough to look good on a full page printout.

MrP, you may recall Houtman the other day tried to post something to Max in New Zealand and found US Mail was not delivering Down Under. On tat basis, I'd forget about trying to include us in calendar deliveries. It's too slow and way too expensive, unless of course we're prepared to cop the cost of a courier.

I'm assuming this is not a forever thing; rather a problem of disrupted deliveries due to covid.

If one ships one at a time, I'd buy into this. But if MrP shipped a few calendars to you, Corm, via one parcel (snail mail), it would be relatively cheap, arrive within 4 weeks, and make you all happy. All you had to do is distribute the calendars at your end. No ?

j3gq, the problem is snail mail: US Mail has given up on Australia for the time being. I think—but i don’t know—that it had to do with the almost total cessation of airline travel between the countries during Covid. Although flights are on the increase, it appears postal services have not resumed.

The only really easy way to get the calendar here would be for MrP to email PDFs of the pages, together with the full-size images and create a facsimile with an online publisher.

I wouldn't worry. It can be handled. The secret is just not to use regular first class post. Priority and Package are still sending.
