I know you Yankee types are parking your bikes for the winter. But here in Florida, it's FINALLY riding season. It's been a long, hot summer, and frankly it's not a lot of fun to ride when your clothes and helmet are soaked in sweat by the time you roll your bike out of the garage. I'm sure our AZ pals can relate.

We had almost a week of strong northerly winds, and today the temperature broke and is in the low to mid 70's. I took the CB for a spin and it ate it up...amazing what that denser air does for the performance. It's enough of a difference that putting the 2Bros back on without adjusting the fueling is hardly noticeable.

The only bummer is my doc wants to bolt in an artificial left hip. I broke it last November in a bike crash and missed the entire riding season. My left leg is now about 1/2" shorter than the right and I have a hell of a limp. Hurts like a bear much of the time too. He thinks I need to do it before the year ends so I don't screw up my back limping around, but I really don't want to miss another season. Maybe I'll stall him off till late spring...

My wife had a total hip replacement yesterday at 10 a.m.. I brought her home today at 2 pm. She starts out patient pt tomorrow at 11 a.m. Truly amazing what they can do these days.

Good luck with your decision. Before end of year is good if you have deductible met.

I agree! I had my total hip replacement 3 years ago and boy pain free now! Doesn't help that the arthritis is in the other joints but the hip is good to go! Couldn't stand to sit on a bike before it was that unbearable but now it is amazing!

Get it done!!!!

Ferret, your wife is home already!? WOW! Some turn around time! Here the quickest you get released is day 3. I had my replacement done on a Tuesday at 9:00am and was going home Friday morning at 9am! and I went home a day early at that time...

But as far as riding, I lived in Arizona for 18 years and would ride all the time. Even in the 120 degree weather. Sure you sweat, but I guess I was a die hard and rode. I didn't do major rides but it was a daily commuter to work.

Yep, so far she feels great . Waiting for the pain hammer to drop. Im having more pain in my knee from my miniscus surgery 6 weeks ago than she's having so far. My knee is killing me today for some reason.

Wish it was in the 70s here, going to 53 tomorrow and Im planning a ride while my wife takes a nap. 53 is acceptable for mid November in Ohio.

I ride to work every day....sortta. Now that I have switched up my hours I can actually carpool with one of my coworkers that lives a paltry 4 miles from me. So I've gone from 115 miles a day to......8. Smile
It hasn't rained here in almost 2 full months....and there isn't any in the forecast either.
Oh....I work for a company that makes those joints you guys are talking about so I have a bit of a clue as to what's involved with all of that. I too am a bit surprised that she cam home a day after the procedure. I would think they would want to monitor her incision for infection longer than that to be on the safe side, but then again....what do I know. I'm no doctor after all. Wink

She got a DePuy press fit hip replacement, anterior procedure, the incision was only 3 or 4 inches long, and glued backed together, no exterior stitches. Interior stitches discolve. Bandage is waterproof, has some kind of anti germ coating on it, and stays on for 2 weeks. She has follow up with surgeon in 6 weeks. She has a host of meds to take and some kind of shot she has to give herself in the stomach skin for the next 8 days I think. It's wild I tell ya. They had her up walking around the hospital and doing steps twice today before releasing her.

Our hope is she is able to ride again.

Modern medicine is unbelievable, I had a hernia operation in 1975 and stayed in the hospital for 7 days. I had heart surgery last year and stayed in the hospital for 4 days. I hope your wife feels better ferret.

Thanks for the feedback on the hip guys. I've been flip-flopping on this decision for months, which is really unlike me. On the one hand I really want to get back to normal (whatever that is), on the other I'm constantly reading about lawsuits over the prosthetics etc. Of course even with insurance this won't be cheap...I just finished paying the bills from the crash.

One thing I learned from all this: when the day does come when I know I won't be able to ride anymore, I'm going to be a miserable bucko.

Hey even back in the day for me they had me up that same day walking around and sitting in this hard wooden chair. I had staples though not glue but times have changed...

Spaceman, get it done if the doctor says he will do it! You won't regret it and if you do it now you well be set for next year!

When I get back to my desk I will have to see if I have the bookmark for a flash based tutorial that is funny in my opinion about hip and knee replacements
