Memphis to Seattle and back!
#1

So the long ride finally happened. 5609 miles in 13 days. What an amazing trip. Great places, great people, and great weather. Windy South Dakota was a bit less than fun but I made it through. Mt Rushmore, is an amazing place to see on a bike. Nebraska is just about the most beautiful place I have had the privilege to ride through. Minor issues along the way were remedied by good ol' American folks. Bike was great. 48-52 mpg the whole way (except South Dakota which earned me 33). A couple oil changes and today a trip to the dealer for the 8000 mile check (at 10470 miles). I'd like my bike back now please!

That's a heck of a ride. 800 miles round trip is my sad personal record.. Having a wife who doesn't share my enthusiasm for motorcycles doesn't really help me afford the time to do it.. I have some grandiose dreams of cross country treks on my CB though!

Sounds like you had a great trip. I remember SD. Friend and I took 20 west, and the winds had us on an angle most of the time.

SD is where semi trucks and RVs get blown over some times.

I've heard that Wyoming can be pretty nasty with the wind, too.

There are some areas here in California that get some big gusts, too. I experienced a not so pleasant couple hours going north toward I-5 last summer. On the drive (cage unfortunately) down to LA this month there were places that had signs advising of high wind areas, but it was pretty calm at the time.
