Payson Run, no pics
#1

Finally got a chance to take a decently long ride up to Payson Arizona. Used electrics to meet Larry and his buddy on a Ducati; got a bit too hot. Ditched them once I got off the freeway. 61 miles to Payson from our meet up spot in Fountain Hills, 20+ miles to the meetup so about a 200 mile day.

Laam seat did good, but four hours is about my limit on it. This bike will cruise at 80mph with no issues nor breaking a sweat which is a wee bit disturbing 'cause that was way over the limit and I expected more motor feedback to warn me I was being a hooligan. New helmet has this rubber sneeze guard on the chin piece making the speedo a bit harder to see.

It handles the fast sweeper pretty good to (at least at the lower speeds I tend to take 'em at). Motor was smooth, no buzzing and if anything too darn quiet.

Not only did I forget the camera, I forgot to check how much gas I pumped in at 135 miles. At about 130 miles she started the blinking red low fuel indicator so that may clue you in.

I think the Griso is still my preferred mount for long distance riding because of the throbbing locomotive force between my legs, the Russell Day Long seat, larger alternator to cover electrics like gloves and jacket liner and the hand guards. I have yet to find good looking hand guards for the CB.

All in all, my town bike did very well an answered some questions I had on the seat and sustained running at speed. Also has good reserve power for passing at speed. Does not launch forward like the Griso, but no slouch either.

Between the 696 Monster and the 600 GS-R, it was the best looking bike of the group. Smile

Dang, forgot the darn camera!

The CB is an amazing motorcycle and much different than the Griso. Nice to have two machines that do things just a little differently. Did you figure out the Griso battery issue? What electrics were you using to meet Larry?

Tossed in the towel and bought a new battery. Problem solved (although some good charger time on the old battery seemed to have given it some new life).

Last year I bought into the CycleGear Hotwired stuff. Jacket liner and glove liners. I bought some Aerostich leather gloves sized to use with the liners but they seem a bit small this year. Bugger! The controller for the Hotwired stuff tucks into the jacket liner. Very hard to adjust if you choose unwisely and cook yourself. I'd prefer an external control so you don't have to stop (and take off a glove and liner then try to put it back on).

I still prefer the liners to heated grips.

Ya, the Griso is more like a Boss Mustang while the CB is more like a Buick or Thunderbird. Maybe I'll trade the Griso in on an Indian. Smile
