A visit to the high country
#1

It was supposed to get up into the mid 90s today, so I decided to take a ride to the mountains and soak up some cool riding weather before it starts getting cold.

The route was Phoenix->Payson->Camp Verde and then back to Phoenix on the slab. It was about 250 miles of fun. Not much traffic on the back roads and even the dash home on I-17 was pleasant.

Leaving Payson and headed for Strawberry. I grabbed the lanyard cam and took some pics Ferret style!

Stopped along the road for a leg stretch and the obligatory CB11 photo op.

Descending out of the high country into the Verde River valley.

It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

BTW, I made two gas stops and got a "What year is that?" each time. Big Grin

Sounds like a great day, and great pics as well. Will trade some high 40's lower 50's for some of your high 80's, low 90's.. Just looked it up, we had 7 days in the 90s this year and our highest was 95.

Brrrrrr! I'll pass on that trade. It was 95 by the time I rolled back into town in the afternoon. That's makes it the coolest day we've had all week.

I didn't expect to see so many trees in your pics. That is an area I am considering moving to after I get done with school. Seeing trees reaffirms I should check it out.

Once you get above 5k ft., you pretty much find typical pine forests. On this route, that would be from Payson to just before Camp Verde.
