Mt Hotham
#1

19 June 2017

Last month on the 27th of May I awoke early, for one reason or another the opportunity to go for a slightly longer ride had not presented its self since the March Rally Down Under. I left before sunrise to see the first light through the fog along the Bengworden road, it it could only get warmer with the rising sun. My objective was to ride to Mt Hotham before the snow.

On the way down the hill.

On a prior ride.

The 28th of May saw a fall of 22 cm of snow.

When I got to Bairnsdale it was time to refuel and take the silk glove inserts out of my jacket pocket, later reflection on the BOM website had the temperature on my departure form home just above zero. Bruthern, Ensay then Swift Creek and time for a cuppa at Omeo, I needed to warm up before the ride up the hill. As I rode past the Mt Kosciusko look out I recalled the ride in March this time no rain but somewhat cooler. Just before arrival at Mt Hotham rode into what could be described as pea soup, dense cloud. Fortunately on the last section of climbing road I just rode out of it. The pictures sow my arrival time and the temperate this was alternating between 2 and 3 °C. Workmen were installing the chairs on the the cables for the ski lifts the car park was empty. Destination reached pictures taken it was time to ride back down the hill for warmth at Omeo and onward to home.

Regards

I have run out of edit time, that last bit was a post script.
I should have provided a little more detail in my initial writings.
It would have been good to include a map but its not to be.

Great. Thanks. What a lovely route. Lucky you.

Although, gee, fog is hard work.

Fog is hard to ride thru mentally and physically, as is cold. Had to be a tough ride.

Fabulous photos Noroomtomove. You're one tough 'cookie' doing a ride like that at this time of the year.
