OptiGlanz (for pipes)
#1

I caved in and bought some of this stuff from Amazon and used it yesterday. The warning paper included in the package is worrisome but I had my rubber gloves and a rag to keep overspray from going everywhere. Thankfully the spray nozzle is pretty precise and it's easy to get just the right amount where you need it. Does it work? The nasty-looking color on the pipes melted right off, instantly. I was shocked. However, it did not remove all of the "spots" on the pipes, but it must have softened them up somehow because some Mother's wheel polish got rid of almost all of them. Yeah, it's 28 bucks, but IMO it was worth it. The pipes look like they should have from day one, now.

Could you spray it on the rag then wipe it on to avoid any overspray?

That stuff is so expensive, it's not worth throwing away one half of it onto rags :-)

I applied Optiglaz one time at 700 miles. All of the gold/brown melted off. I now have 2,700 miles on the bike and the pipes still look perfect. The gold never came back.

The pipes are coated for shipment, and are supposed to be cleaned thoroughly before running the engine. Rode mine home, pipes felt greasy, and they quickly discolored. But they did soon such a way that I could see where some of the pipes were wiped off better than others. I chalk it unto lazy prepping. At least they remembered the important stuff lie making sure oil was in the crankcase.

I started to do just that, but when I saw that I could carefully spray exactly where I wanted it, I used the rag to kind of shield the spray from going where I didn't want it to go. Beer

Finally used my bottle today....worked like a charm...I did use gloves and 0000 steel wool to apply.
