Yep. I lost the spare key. I feel terribly insecure without a spare.
I trotted off to the dealer thinking they might have it by either the original paper work, or be able to look it up by VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Nope. And, they cannot duplicate it because of the plastic end.
They can, however, order one by the key code that can only be found on the ignition switch. Has anyone taken out the switch? I intend to tackle it and will photo and document if it isn't already here on the forum. If it is, I couldn't find it by search.

My 2014 standard came with a tag with the key number on it.
When I bought the bike, I took one of the keys to the locksmith next door and had a duplicate made, without the plastic head, to take up less room on my key ring.

Mine came with a tag too, and while I haven't needed another key for the CB, I have had other Honda keys duplicated as a flat blank, as SD said, that work perfectly fine.

Honda stopped putting the key number on the ignition switch on most street bikes a while back.
My ignition switch has two separate alpha/numeric codes, one 6 characters long, the other 3 characters long. Neither has any correllation to the number on the stamped plate that comes with the keys.
That is the key code that some dealers or locksmiths can cut to. Most locksmiths carry flat replacement keys from ILCO, and the Honda blank is a HD109.

I carry a flat spare (no plastic) in my wallet cut by Mr. Lock for $4. Blank was an Ilco X265 stamped on one corner, HD 109 stamped in the other corner

For my 2013 and 2014 I had a local locksmith cut me two extra ones for $ 4 each , I use them (one hidden on the bikes ) Keep the original one safe at home.
For the 2017 I ordered two Honda blanks from my local dealer and a locksmith cut them using the original one as a guide, very easy.

I also think the locksmith will be the easiest solution. I bent my key in the helmet lock on the first day of ownership. Got a flat replacement key (no plastic) at the local hardware store for about $5.

And any locksmith worth their salt will be able to decode the cuts from your existing key. (or just copy it for you)

I must have lost the one with the tag. It does sound like it can be "decoded" and copied. A flat key would be fine, as pointed out by The Ferret, for the wallet or hidden on the bike. I suppose there was a monetary motive for not admitting it could be copied.

You have one right? ( for the locksmith to copy? ) You just lost the back up?
