Got the bike back together this afternoon. I fired it up and wouldn't you know it....the idle is still high. I took it around the block as well. Still the same. Maybe the updated part is in my future

That sounds not right, back to basics; if you remove the fuel pump relay ( to get rid of the sound ) and switch the ignition on can you hear the iacv adjusting itself every time ?
And what happens when you connect the old iacv externally ?

That's a good question. Dave was just emailing me something similar. I'll rip it apart again tommorow, now that I'm confident and familiar on how it all comes apart and goes back together.

I gotta say a public thankyou to Dave! He has been on the email checking in with me and monitoring my progress or that the lack of for the past few weeks. He has alot of knowledge when it comes to this and his encouraging words and pictures helped me a long in ways I cant even begin to explain. I feel as though the iacv has been replaced on the bike by the previous owner. After I separated the 2 pieces of the forward air box that is connected to the penlum one of the screws that attach the intakes to the forward section of the box to the penlum was rounded or stripped. I couldn't remove it with removing the throttle body and all the other plumbing. I then took that to a local dealership to have the successfully remove the screw. Just one the of many bumps along the way that Dave talked me down off the ledge! Thanks again Dave! This is by far the best forum to belong to. Just about every bike I've had, I've belonged to a forum and this one is the best by far! The best because of the people here. The best because of those willing to share their knowledge to those of us that are rookies! Thanks! I will continue to update this when I'm able to work on it. I'll probably be searching out the replacement part for the 17 and above!

Are you saying you have an air leak potentially causing your problem now? I’m a tad confused.

Air leak? I'm confused...no air leak mentioned.

No worries!!! Its all good. I have a new screw in the place of the stripped screw. It's all good and secure. Not sure why the idle is still so high. Maybe a bad part from Honda. It's not the updated part #

Gordo, I have no expertise in this field at all, but I do follow the forum a bit and I don’t recall anyone having to replace a second IACV. Could the be another problem?

Cormanus, there could be another problem. Going by the service manual, which is about totally useless for this problem, it could also be the ECU.
I would not just jump on that though. Too many other things to check first. Plus we haven’t had ANY reports of failed ECU’s IIRC. But that was one reason Max wanted to know if the IACV was moving upon ignition on.

Interesting theory on the ecu. My son and I were talking this morning and he thought maybe something in the throttle cable. For giggles I unplugged just the iacv and fired up the bike and it was straight up 1750 rpms, just as it was with the iacv plugged in. Then I unplugged the plug on the left side on the penlum marked Keihen and that brought it down to the 1050 rpms.
