Really high idle

I've been searching and calling Honda dealerships hoping someone had one in stock. No luck. It seems like the consensus is if you buy the whole shebang at $800.00 + it's all new and will fix it. I'm curious, is there a way to bypass the iacv and trick the motor to run at proper idle. And could this potentially maybe be a clutch issue instead of iacv? Just a thought. I'm kinda new to the whole diagnosing and wanting to fix this on my own. I'm struggling not being able to ride it. I tried riding Monday this week to my doctors and felt unsafe at stop lights. Engaging the clutch didnt relieve the high idle. I tried the kill switch and full throttle, opening and closing praying that would temporarily fix it. It didn't. I'm gonna try this weekend to remove and possibly clean the iacv with some brake cleaner. Thankyou all for the tips and taking time out to help me thru this process

3. Max's theory about magnetism loss from heat has considerable merit, but even if the magnets could be properly re-magnetized, the IACV would still require removal.

4. The IACV controls/is supposed to control the idle mixture. If the stepper motor is not properly functioning (there is no encoder feedback, as associated with a servo motor), a McGyver manual operation would be difficult. And for that much potential labor (Dave posted what is involved for IACV replacement), best to do it right. I will add to Max's theory in that the replacement probably has more durable magnets.

6. Check with other forum members to verify the correct part number, then do a global search. If it is the motor assembly 16430-MJF-DO1, list is $133.42. Honda of South Georgia is showing 2 in stock. Adept Power Sports shows a price of $104.57.

SportsterDoc you are correct on the price of 133.00. I may have mis texted. The price for the whole throttle assy is the 800.00+. I appreciate you finding IACV. I will call them in the morning to clarify they have it and see if they'll mail it up to me in Fort Wayne. Once again thankyou sir!! The wealth of knowledge and info on this forum continues to amaze me!

Gordo, the only time you have to buy the “whole shebang” is if the TPS fails as it is not available separately. And there MAY be a way around that. Not your problem right now though.

Thanks again for the link!! I never would have thought ebay!! I called the dealership this morning to confirm they had 2 in stock, and then I pulled the trigger. Thanks again! I'm sure I will have a few questions when I start tearing it down

I only was involved in diagnostics to establish that the IACV is the main issue...eliminating other sensors.

For those not reading the War and Peace thread on it, we had a behind the scenes team of the guys Doc mentioned doing various tests, etc with, AFAIR, Doc and Max doing the posting to keep the clutter down.

Hi Gordo. There was a post somewhere on this forum (maybe the same thread) that identified some short-cuts for replacing the IACV that I didn't use. These short-cuts will save you probably a couple of hours (at least judging by the rate that I work). I was following the procedure defined in the official Honda Service Manual. The changes I made to the recommended procedure are: I removed the rear wheel to gain access to the airbox removal instead of disconnecting the rear shocks and dropping the rear wheel down. Also, there is no need to remove the throttle body assembly from the motorcycle to replace the IACV. Remember to "lightly" grease the new IACV before installing it. Please feel free to IM me if I can be of any assistance. Thumbs up to Titus 2:13.

Hi Dave, thanks for your input, i would be a bit careful with greasing the iacv, this could pick up dust over time and mess things up in there, can you elaborate on this?

And the shortcut involved getting the airbox out from memory, just be aware of the sensors on the airbox.
