Does Honda use OBD?
#1
First check engine light this morning on my way to work; gave the bike a quick look but didn’t have time to get into it.

Cylinders are firing and have oil so certain I won’t blow anything up, but does Honda use an OBD or OBD equivalent and where can I find it on the bike?

As yet I believe the answer is no. Others will chime in I'm sure. I think it will be mandated and a Google search says Honda is going to be going to OBD.

Usually the manual says to connect the HDS ( Honda diagnostic system). It is EXPENSIVE and only available to dealers so says my dealer. I have one made by Healtech that jacks into the diagnostic port and a PC running the Healtech software. It works great.

Don't know about the '17, but on earlier bikes the diagnostic connector is under the left side panel.

You can have the light flash the codes. I don't remember how. It is one of those put the kickstand down. Turn around 3 times then hit the kill switch and say "Cormanus commands you" Big Grin and the codes will flash in a sequence that shows the code.

Actually it is easy to put in the flash mode but I will have to look up how unless someone else posts it up. I think it only flashes the major code, not the subcode. The reader will get that.

OK, here is how to do it --- http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=18018

If you do that, I suggest you video it with your phone to post here if needed as sometimes it is a tad hard to tell the first digit, then the separator flash or wait, then the second digit flashes.

Possibly a Forum member indicated there is an OBD interface on 2017 and onward models.

If so, it would be consistent with other Honda models having it starting around the same model year.

Like in that video:

Can I just short the terminal with a paperclip? I recall doing in on old Honda civics. I don’t have access to whatever he had looked like a paperclip with a capacitor attach at the top lmao

For some reason, in the video, he is using a resistor. The service manual does not call for that. The service manual calls for using the SCS service connector to short Brown and Green together. Says it just like that. Don’t have the SCS connector? use a wire, or a paper clip or whatever.

The SCS service connector is just a connector with a wire loop connected to the pins for Brown and green.

Like PD said, make sure its brown to green.

Guess I could never join the military even if I wanted. That’s brown, right? Lmao that orange/white combo wire looks close to brown.

So basically just touch the two metal contacts together.
