There are companies that make pannier frames to keep soft luggage supported away from the bike, mine are from [url=https://www.fehling.de/index.php?content=start&lang=eng]https://www.fehling.de/index.php?content=start&lang=eng but were on the bike when I purchased it. These would allow you to use any of the low cost throw over panniers from a multitude of suppliers. There must be a similar supplier in NA.

Use the search feature on the forum and no doubt you will pick up plenty of luggage threads. A common requirement seems to be the relocation of the rear indicators as they can get in the way of panniers.

I have no panniers or tank bag; nor do I have a windshield of any sort. I covered 7,500 kms on the trip on which this photo was taken. I'm about to do something similar so it works OK for me.

Answering your older post! about to tour Sth Island NZ on my CB, luggage will be 52L topbox and 20L dry bag on passenger seat (not camping). Did you have to add a notch on rear springs to compensate for the load? Im currently set on 3 with std (3 notches) on front (prefer this set up as it falls better into corners as typical on our roads). I assume also you mount your bike off the footpeg? Another question you might be able to answer, mine is a 2018 with 17L fuel tank, I have yet to push the range but ride yesterday of 325kms it returned 23kms / litre so thats saying 391km , dont really trust this but im guessing 300 might be realistic maybe?
thanks

Rogerdj, as Tev advises, another notch of preload on the rear springs is an excellent idea with this load. I went from 3 to 4. Yes, I do have to mount from the foot peg.

My fuel tank is 14.6L and I generally fill up around 220 km. My best effort is 260kms, but I was very nervous for the final 30 kms. The 2011 model doesn’t have the fuel computer and fuel consumption can vary a good deal between city riding and touring so I rely on [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11741]noroomtomove’s first law of motion and fuel consumption to calculate how many kms are left.

Take lots of pictures on your tour and post a report. I let the side down in 2021 due to COVID and a lengthy sailing trip.

As an addendum, I hope I won’t have to carry such a high load again as I’ve added soft panniers to be rig.

I adapted a givi rack and panniers rack from a CB750 to my CB1100, works out pretty good. A Russell Day Long seat (with a heating element!!) really helped.

I have a windscreen and smoked plastic grip guards to keep the cold wind off my delicate pinkies. Big Grin

But, I think I'd like more of a SUV or lux-o barge road bike. So an Africa Twin, Suzuki 1050 XT or a 'Wing may be in my future. Keep the CB1100 for local rides.....
