Well I took a ride on my CB250 up to Mountain Motorsports in Marietta to check out the CB1100 they have in stock! Out of curiosity I checked the VIN... I was surprised that Honda is already on unit number 1632! The salesman speculated that this tally includes those sold in Canada. They said its their 3rd one and they weren't expecting it... The first 2 sold in matter of days but this one has been on the lot for 2.5 wks (as of last week)
The OTD price was quoted in the $11.4k range with tax and assembly fees and all that. A little high I'm sure but I didn't negotiate.
Anyway I had a good look around it and took plenty of pictures. I sat on it and discovered it was a little higher than my CB250 (I guess the US model is 1" higher than non-US?). Other impressions: classic, comfortable, shiny metallic bits.
One last interesting comment by the salesman was that 2 older gentlemen in their 60's had come to look at it THAT SAME DAY and BOTH of them ended up buying the CTX700 instead! Wow! The CTX is way more cruiser, and more plastic, so I was surprised that buyers moved over so far. That to me does not bode well for CB1100 sales.

I bought #1659 a couple weeks ago up here near Philadelphia, and I'm sure others on here have even higher numbers. I'm thinking CB11 sales have slowed a bit since the US introduction, especially since it's mid-to-late season. During the first few weeks (back around March I assume), they were apparently selling like crazy.

I would never buy a CTX700 instead of a CB1100. But, I will admit that I do like the CTX700. In fact, it's the only "modern looking" bike I ever liked. I didn't think it would ever happen. It would look good sitting NEXT to my CB1100 and my Suzuki TU250X in the garage.
I figured out why I don't like most modern bike styling and what I do like about the CTX700 styling. Most modern plastic bikes "slant downward" or point down. I hate that and they all do it! What I like about the new 700 is that it always looks like it's going forward (straight forward). It looks great IMO and it's bold and new! I'm expecting it to be reliable too. I may get one some day (even though it's not retro or old!).

I like the CTX700 also I am just not too sure about the size displacement ..

The CTX700 is $3000 cheaper than the CB1100. That's a lot of reasons to buy it if you just want to go riding. Unless the big CB11 rings a bell for you it doesn't make a lot of sense for most people. A few years ago Ford made a retro/modern 2 seat Thunderbird and the same comment applied to that car. It wasn't the fastest, the best handling, or the most comfortable 2 seat sports car. But to a lot of baby boomers it struck a cord and they had to have one. I wasn't in the market for an 8th motorcycle to put in my garage when I first saw the CB11 in a magazine. I thought (almost hoped) that when I saw one in the flesh that I wouldn't like it. But I loved it and I still do. The CTX700 is like a good riding lawn mower to me, capable, comfortable, and lots of utility.....but no emotion. At least, that's my take on it.

I'd also take the CB1100 over the CTX700, but the latter bike's lower seat, narrower width, reduced weight, innovative storage, and good price point make it a winning choice for some. Heck, if a couple guys in their sixties walk into a Honda dealership and walk out with new rides that they will enjoy, I say good on them! And if by chance they happened to really ride those CTX700s they bought, say taking them cross country on a bucket list trip, I'd bet when they returned home those guys would have ear to ear grins and good memories and a couple SD cards of cool pictures to boot!

When U reach your sixties and ride motorcycles U can be a lil whacky! LOL. !

Honda has high hopes for the CTX line. They're hoping it "re-ignites" the motorcycle market by making it easier and cheaper for new riders to enter. Same goes for the new line of 500's. I wish them well, but unless gas gets up to $5 or more, I don't see another growth curve like the 70's and early 80's. Cars are too cheap and good these days; you can buy a 4 seat Scion car with A/C and a stereo for what I paid for my ABS CB.
As for CB sales: I'd actually prefer they didn't sell well. With the Japan accessories market available, I kind of like the idea of having a "rare" bike. People are still checking out the CB all the time; last week a guy followed me into the parking lot at work so he could look it over and ask a bunch of questions about it.
