How are CB1100s selling in your neck of the woods?

My dealer here in the Portland, OR area sold both of the bikes that they were allocated in the first week. One with a deposit (mine) and the other sold off of the floor. I know that at least as of Friday, there are others available in the area that are not yet spoken for, both non-ABS and ABS models alike.

I would be curious to know how the bike is selling where you live? Hoping this model does well, both for Honda and for the sake of seeing more standard models showing up from other manufacturers in the future.

My local Dealer received two standards, both have sold and been delivered, he has one ABS coming in that has been sold. My initial intention was to wait as the summer progressed figuring that there is not a lot of interest in a Retro looking ‘standard” motorcycle. I figured maybe late July or August I would have some bargaining power. Thanks to this forum I found out that they were selling pretty well. This prompted me to go out and get one while I could.

Yesterday I was at the dealer where RandyB got his bike; I needed a crush washer and the parts/accessories place closer to me didn't have it. They had an ABS model on the floor. It sounded like the dealer I bought mine from also got another one in, because when I called to ask about the tool kit that I hadn't received, the guy mentioned another one.

Fay Myers manager told me he ordered 9. 6 have come so far and all have been sold. I got the only one that did not have a previous deposit.
The other 3 have yet to arrive but I think they'll have no trouble selling all 9 bikes before summer.

He said that at first they thought they may not get many bikes but now it looks like the bikes they ordered will arrive.

I don't think they are selling very well in southeastern Michigan. Most dealers around here won't even stock one to put on the floor!

I visited three Honda dealerships:

#1 An exclusive Honda (Powerline?) dealership. They had one on the floor (non-ABS), said that they were required to display all available models by Honda. Salesman offered me a great price [just under $10,000 out-the door]. I returned a few days later and was advised that the salesman was let go after four days. His replacement offered me the bike for $10,600 OTD.

#2 A multi-bike dealership that was connected to a Harley Davidson dealership. They did not order any CB1100's for stock. The salesman advised that it would be easy to order one and offered me a price of $10,500 OTD.

#3 A multi-Japanese bike dealership. They also did not preorder any CB1100's for stock. The salesmen were occupied, and I delt with the general manager. We got along well. He stated that he could get a CB1100 non-ABS in a few days. He offered me the bike for $10,100 OTD.

I have other bikes to ride, and planned to pick-up a CB1100 around October (a cheap time to buy a motorcycle in Michigan), but this price seemed so good, I doubted that I could beat it in October.

The way I figure it; $10,100 [ minus: $569.89-MI Sales Tax, $15.00 Title Fee, $17.00 Partial Year Plate, $300.00? Shipping Fee & $200.00? Set-Up Fee] means I paid about $8998.11.

I was really suprised to get such a discount (10%) on a first year (in the U.S.) motorcycle that I assumed would be hard to obtain.

I ordered the bike on a Thursday or Friday, it arrived in the crate the following Tuesday (May 14th) trade from another dealer, and I picked it up Thursday (May 16th).

My bike is #0783. Few other serial numbers on this forum are over 1000. I believe that Honda is selling a lot fewer of these bikes in the U.S. than they had hoped or predicted. I expect Honda to discontinue U.S. sales of the CB1100 in one or two years.

Like most, if not all, of you....I think this is a GREAT bike, unfortunately it appears that many of our "Fellow Americans" don't share our good taste and intelligence.

I don't think Honda has ever expected huge sales numbers from the CB11 in the U.S. Although we all know what a great bike it is, the majority of U.S. sales are always going to be plastic coated sport bikes and Harley clones. That's just the way the North American market is.

I don't know if that means they'll drop the model, though. The CB750 Nighthawk was a very slow seller (to the same market segment). They sold it here for 12 years ('91-'03, except '04).

I don't think there's any immediate danger of Honda dropping this model from their lineup. I remember reading a quote from a Honda USA exec.(can't remember where I read it at this point) who said they aren't going to chase volume on this model, but will rather be satisfied with steady sales, and will purposely limit volume to give it a better chance to stick around and avoid unrealistic expectations as occurred with Hawk GTs and CB-1s back in the 90s.

If you know anything about the Subaru BRZ sports car, they pursued a similar strategy of limiting ultimate volume and consider that car a great success after 1-1/2 years of sales.

BTW, I was at the dealer where I bought my bike yesterday and my salesman said they'd sold 5 bikes so far; they have a 6th sitting on the floor. This is in little ol' Mandan, North Dakota, population 25,000 or so.

The last 4 bikes I purchased before the CB1100 were left over models from the previous year with BIG discounts: a 2008 and 2009 Suzuki sports bike, a 2009 Kawasaki sports bike, and a 2010 Triumph Bonneville. Seems a whole lot of bike models don't sell out. Advantage Buyer!

I didn't expect a major discount for the new-to-the-US CB1100. I received quotes of $11,700 out the door (basically list price) and later $10,700 out the door, then I had 2 dealers going back and forth for the deal. I ended up paying $9724 OTD with a listed price for the bike of $8299 from an exclusive Honda dealership who claims he gets a big discount from Honda. The next day another dealer had a 75th anniversary sale and I ordered the rear carrier for 20% off!

I hope and pray the CB1100 does well and comes back year after year.

I went to a Honda/Suzuki dealer in Houston today and they had a non-ABS model on the floor. I asked how much, and he said $11.4K OTD. When I told him of the prices mentioned here and on ADV, he said that the writers were probably not telling the truth, and paid more because they only have a 10% margin of profit. Showed me several contracts on his computer at OTD at $11.4K, as he said. Told me thy have sold seven and that the have no problem getting all they want.

Thanked him and left. Didn't appreciate his calling my forum brothers and sisters liars and telling me that they don't deal on the CB. I hope to get one but it seems not in my area, as two major Honda dealers told me the exact same price... Too high for a play-toy in this economy... tomp dd50

After some thought maybe it just means there will be no more non ABS models. Isn't the non ABS model designated CB1100A?
