I wonder how many 2013 CB1100s have been sold

I'm quite active in an astronomy forum (cloudynights.com), the largest astronomy forum in the states with a large international presence (but a small forum compared to some knitting, woodworking, adventure bike forums) and yet most folks in the hobby are not members and a scary number are not even aware of us. Well, astronomy is not exactly a real social hobby either. Tongue

So folks have to be Internet savy to a certain degree to even consider joining a forum. It certainly helps if you have joined forums before and every time I turn around I bump into folks on forums and yet there is a huge segment out there that either refuses to join or are completely oblivious to them.

I am sure there are more than one graduate research papers that could be written on why folks join forums, why they don't and why they are not aware of them. Smile

Can we make any educated guesses using serial numbers (assuming Honda won't share that info) on how many were built. Sounds like we'll have to treat each market differently and add the results.

As I have said on another thread, I did catch a brief glance of another CB "in the wild" - in a northern Victoria town while returning from the 2013 Phillip Island MotoGP. That's it. The rider of that CB recognised what I was riding by the friendly wave. I wonder if he is on this forum?

I am taking the "Last Blast" for a service next week and intend to enquire about sales in the Sydney area. The chances of a '14 model coming to Oz are probably somewhere between Buckley's and none, but no harm in asking.

Cheers

Even though I haven't got mine yet, I ride my other bike a lot and I haven't seen one in my neck of the woods, I guarantee you I wouldn't have missed it......

According to Honda there are over 1200 dealers in the USA, what do we think each dealer sold? My dealer said 5-6 they sold, I say average might be 1.75 per dealer? That would be 2100, just a guess. Wasn't the highest serial number 1500 something on this forum?

This is a pretty clever way to back into a number. From what I saw, every Florida dealer got 1 ABS and 1 non-ABS. I think it's reasonable to assume they've sold at least 75% of them by now. So, let's see...1200*2, carry the three, multiply by the square of pi...

We can now say with complete authority that exactly 1,800 CB1100's have been sold in the US.

Math one on one! I have visited four honda dealerships and they all had one CB1100 in their showrooms. I have yet to see one in the wild. But if your calculations are correct, with this many CB owners we could sign a petition for the 2014 model. Excited

So far I have learnt that there is one other in NZ up in the North Island, I have yet to see one in my area though I am sure there are more on the road in NZ. Last 4 digits on my VIN are 0096; I am assuming that must apply to the Australasia market only>

Then my next question would be: How many do they have to sell to make it worth keeping the bikes in their US lineup? I would hate to see the CB1100 go the way of the W650. It might actually factor into my plan on whether or not to purchase one. If they MIGHT be discontinued, I would kick myself for not getting one. Wish I could afford to buy every bike I want.

I have only seen one CB1100 on the streets. It was in my hometown of Evansville WI. I was in my work truck and tried to catch the rider but alas he alluded me. I am guessing it was my neighbor to the north of me, CA200, cuz it was two up with a huge plexifaring on it. I think CA200 and his wife ride a lot.
