Just got back from the dealer. Took him my titles, and spare keys from my trades, which he is picking up Friday morning, wrote him a check for the balance, so my 2014 CB 1100 Deluxe is paid in full

Now, I just need to wait for it to come in at the end of March.

I also reminded him he needed to put 2 new rubber lever end covers on the new one for me before I would accept it

You've got a lot of faith; sometimes as we all know, other changes are made to ignition and fuel mapping, engine internals, etc. that could reveal themselves. The six-speed transmission would certainly involve a mechanical reworking. I wondered that perhaps, in order to stuff in the additional ratio, some significant changes in shifting feel might result.

Of course, a six-speed transmission is hardly a new concept to Honda, but it's new to this bike. I'd think ECU remapping to match the new gear ratios would not be unusual.

Also the new suspension changes -- at least as reported -- could change the handling quite a bit. I'm not sure but what there wasn't a misprint about the increased inch of rear travel, but we'll see.

I have just come to like my '13 so well that I couldn't think of taking a bath, even a wee little one (minimum, say, of $4K lost in trade) on a bike I'd never ridden.

From what I have read, none of the gear ratios changed. Just added an OD 6th gear.

Dang; I just read that the Deluxe is a whopping 30.9 pounds heavier than the standard issue model (about 5 pounds of that is the additional fuel, of course).

That is a complete deal-breaker for me. More weight? The CB1100 is already the porker in my garage. I like rougher secondary roads and more weight is not what I need.

But I do see how someone who racks up a boatload of freeway and more leisurely miles would benefit from all the little bells and whistles. It's a good freeway bike and the Deluxe would enhance this a bit.

Well, it depends on how you run the numbers. If you take what I paid for my CB and what I received on trade do I add the difference? Or count that as a use tax for the 7,035 miles I rode it? Same on my Majesty. I figured what I felt my bikes were worth retail and on trade. Going against the $11,899 retail on the new bike, (because you are rarely going to come out good on your trade against a discounted price.. and in the end you are only moving the numbers around anyway) I came out very close to what I figured I needed to make the deal. We were a few hundred apart, but the dealer has been good to me on past purchases. I want him to make some money so he will be there when I need him, so I didn't fight. I figured in the end it cost me my 2013 CB plus about $4100 everything included. Worth it? Only time will tell. I'm happy with the deal. In the end the dealer made a little on the retail price of the new CB vs what he allowed on my trades and will make a little both of the trades. Everyone's happy.

If you want to figure it like that..I don't. I figure I got $3000 worth of use out of my '13. Riding 7035 miles has to be worth something.

I will be renting a bike this summer when my wife and I fly to Nevada. It's $1500 for a week. If you compare it to that, having the CB for 9 months for only $3000 is a bargain.

I like your math ferret. I (and it sounds like you too) have been buying new motorcycles for a long time. Sometimes the math doesn't work out to good.
But I don't care. I justify life, never try to justify what I paid for a new bike!

Glad you were able to get things worked out to your satisfaction Mickey. In situations like these, there is no sense in trying to make sense out of what is basically an illogical purchase. As long as you're happy, and I know that you are , that's all the really matters here.

Red Mist...It's still 150 pounds lighter than my ST 1300 which weighs over 700 pounds. 550 pounds is actually about average for a big bore UJM.... Comparable to most all the big inline 4s from the 70 s and 80 s. Most of the weight on the new CB will be the exhaust so low cog weight, and of course 8 pounds of it is the ABS.

I was in the motorcycle industry for 17 years (1972-1990) many of them with Honda, and I started riding Honda motorcycles in 1968. Owned a bunch.. 160, 305, 350/2, 350/4, 450, several 750s, 1100v4, 1100 I-4, 1300 and I have owned 9 Honda four wheeled vehicles. I was in over the road sales for the last 23 1/2 years, (1990-2013) approx 50,000 miles per year, all the miles since 1991 in Hondas usually putting between 200 and 300 thousand miles on them before getting another. I currently have a Ridgeline, an Accord and a Civic in the driveway. No Honda has ever failed to bring me home..so far ( knock on wood).

I trust this new 14 Deluxe will be every bit as smooth, reliable, refined and sophisticated as every other Honda vehicle I have owned.

I'd hate to tell you how much of a bath I took on the one Chevy truck I bought new in 2003. Z 71 4x4, crew cab, std bed, with ABS and tow package....what a piece of junk. I could throw away the 14 Deluxe and still not lose as much money.
