When I sold Harleys at the Bruce Rossmeyer dealership, trade-ins were always the most difficult deals. I'd write up the deal on a worksheet with the customer's bike and our bike, take it to the sales manager for final pricing, and then go back to my desk and enrage the customer when they saw the numbers. Buyers came in thinking the thousands of dollars in chrome and accessories they added would count, or that we'd offer the price they saw their bike listed for online, or that we'd offer KBB or NADA retail instead of the much lower trade-in prices.
I don't think there's a worse value scenario than trading a 2013 for a 2014, regardless of if it's a bike, a car, or a boat.

It would surely be a bath.. And could only happen if you could afford the bath but I wouldn't trade used wholesale to new retail..it would have to be retail to retail or wholesale to wholesale

I like, and can deal with, 3.... One adventure style road/dirt bike...
One highway tourer... And one an all around fun, sporty, around town bike. The 3 I have right now fit that bill well.

Kinda sad to not do your research before you made a 10,000 dollar purchase. You should have known about the 5 speed, although unless you drive at 80+ mph all day and in that case you need a sport bike, I have a 2010 Z1000, a five speed is just fine. As for the pipes, if you didn't like the look why did you buy the CB. I love the ride, I know why Honda made the bike, its not a sport bike, and I Love the look. But, I did do my research...

Most of us, if not all of us, bought the CB1100 before there was any inkling of a 2014 bike and of course no one had any clue about the "upgrades".
Or we would have waited. At the risk of this bike being a one year wonder like the 1983 CB1100F. I fully intended to sell off as surplus my Moto Guzzi Griso once I got the CB; but the bikes are soooo different there is no way now. In fact, I was going to buy the CB but got the Griso instead when Honda dragged their heals on introducing it. Guess I need to win the lottery.

I am pretty sure that the EX and Deluxe versions of the CB1100 were probably announced after his purchase. Not sure how any research would have revealed that a different version of the bike with features he would want would be available at a later date.

You know... research or not (and I did a lot...), there was no inkling that an EX was coming
with all the enhancements. I bought the bike because I wanted a version of an old CB750 which in June was brand new and exciting. I like the bike and yes, the decision to purchase was emotional... A bad choice? No. But Honda came out with a better one this year. I guess I could have taken a chance and waited... but wait for what? A hope and a prayer?

For me, its not a single upgrade that tears at my heart, its the upgrades in their entirety. The 4 into 2 pipes with actual double wall chromed head pipes, the instrumentation with the gear indicator, the differently patterened seat, then add in the 1" higher bars, the 6 speed trans, the larger capacity fuel tank.
Believe me I researched this bike for 3 years, and ordered it before my dealer even knew it was available. Most of us that desired the bike figured this might be a one shot deal and like Rboe said a one year model. It was discussed at length here. Believe me had i know or had an inkling that there would be an upgraded model only 1 year later, I'd have waited. Then I would have had a choice, the original sporty model or the upgraded model.
