CB1100 or ST1300?

I may have to make a choice between my 2014 CB1100 std and a older low mileage ST1300.
Which one would you choose if you could only have one.
I'd like to have both, but I'm not sure I can swing it.

Oh, come on now....you're asking this question in a CB1100 forum.

You know the type of rider you are. Do you do more long-distance/multi-day runs? Or are you more likely to sprint out for a few hours on a weekend afternoon?

Depends on what kind of riding you do.

When I had both a CB11 and an ST13, if I was forced to choose one, it would easily have been the ST13--a porky (but well-handling) sportbike with a 7.7 gallon gas tank, electric windshield, torquey V-4 engine, and built-in luggage.

Plus, keep in mind that it's quite possible to turn the CB1100 into an ST-like bike, but not so with turning the ST into a CB1100-like bike.
Even if it's only on a temporary basis, you can throw a windscreen & luggage on the CB in minutes.

I guess it would depend upon how you use your bike most, but I can tell you first hand that the CB1100 is a perfectly capable sport touring bike. I don't even have a windshield or permanent luggage...just a waterproof duffel and a tank bag and I'm set for a week of travel.

Hope you can keep them both, though.

I'm with EmptySea. The CB1100 is a very capable sport tourer. I've just ridden mine 4,500 kms with no screen, a top box, waterproof duffel and an AirHawk cushion 'cause I'm soft. Went like a charm and I couldn't have been happier. My compatriot, Pterodactyl, has toured on his a great deal more than me.

I hope you can keep them both but, if plenty of commuting in traffic is in your repertoire, the CB1100 is worth considering.

Keep the CB1100 you can always get another ST1300

Thanks for the responses...I know several members have both and appreciate all input. I didn't know until today, they quit making the ST1300 last year. The CTX1300 is a cruiser design.

I have both an ST 1300 and a CB 1100.

Having just completed a round trip ride to the Pacific Ocean from Ohio I can tell you there isn't much better bike for a trip like that than a ST 1300. We averaged 493 miles a day for 11 days straight. That is a lot of saddle time. If I had notions of traveling like that alot, I select the ST. The wind protwction, the luggage, the fuel capacity is hard to beat.

However if trips like that were not on the docket and I had to choose a bike to live with everyday, running, errands, running around town, country roads rides and the occassional mulit days multi state trip I d choose the CB 1100.

Had an ST1300 for a couple years and really did not care much for it. Not a bad bike mind you but it has some issues. First and worst is heat. On a summer day the heat coming off the motor will cook your legs. The stock seat was not comfortable until I had it professionally modified, something that should not have to be done to a dedicated touring bike. It's heavy and the weight is centered high making the bike difficult to maneuver in the garage. It's also a bit long in the tooth compared to it's competition.

It does have some fine attributes foremost being weather protection. An excellent, electrically adjustable windscreen. Good brakes and fine handling that belies it's size. High quality luggage and great fuel capacity.

I'd get the CB1100.
