pcm results
#1
has anyone done a measurable before and after comparison following installation of a power commander? i find it odd that dynojet has enough time/effort to put up a video of them installing a pcm on a cb1100, but wouldn't put the effort into making a video showing any sort of before/after results (not to mention preparation of any custom maps.) since i have had mixed results with pcm installations (on cars/trucks i have owned they were noticeable, but not on my old 2002 gsxr750) i am hesitant at spending the time/money without seeing something confirming them first.

i am waiting till september when my warranty expires before installing one on the bike, so i was hoping that i could find out something positive here first. to date my changes to the bike have been mainly cosmetic (painted sidecovers and fork gaitors) aside from the yoshimura slip on muffler and 17 tooth front sprocket.

overall i am very happy with my cb1100 "as-is" compared to other motorcycles that i have owned (several sportbikes, an enduro, a triumph thruxton and a few cbs,) but then again who wouldn't mind a little extra performance at minimal work/expense.

thanks in advance,

jt

Good question!

The stock ECU apparently can't fully handle significant modifications to intake and exhaust systems. There could be loss of performance, idling issues, etc.

I ran a Staintune slip-on without an add-on fuel controller with no issues. But I installed a PVC before I opened up the intake (TSR air funnel and K&N filter) and the exhaust (Motogear cat-free headers). Bike runs great but I don't know what would have happened without the PCV.

Hopefully some experts will weigh in, maybe touching on dyno-tuning and ECU reflashes.

You can also have the stock ECU flashed with a new map. The fellow doing it can tweak the map for different mods, and remove the built in speed governor. Runs about $350 (there is a thread around here somewhere regarding that) and completely negates the need for a power commander. No need for a middle man when you are talking to THEE man.

There is a group doing our own maps with freeware software for Ducati's and Moto Guzzi's, I'm kinda surprised a grass roots group has not formed for Honda's/CB1100.

TunerPro is free (used to edit and create maps) but it needs to know how the ECU is laid out (what the different memory addresses hold and their functions).
