Short Timer, I'm not picking on you and I liked the joke, so forgive me for using your post to illustrate the moderator's dilemma.

paddy is doing some roofing work for murphy.. he gets the top of the ladder and starts shaking and going dizzy .......
'murp' he shouts down [in your best irish accent] 'a tink all ave to go home.. ave come all over giddy an a feel sick."
'ok' murphy asks 'ave yer got vertigo?'
paddy replies 'naa I only live round da corner'

Hello

Let's hypothesis as follows: I'm of Irish descent (true) and I'm easily offended (probably not true). I'm sick to death of the stereotyping of my ancestors as hapless idiots, the butt of wannabe funny men and women the world over. So I blast off a PM to the moderator demanding he takes down the post because I'm offended. The moderator (or owner) is inconvenienced and has to ponder what to do about it which interrupts their other pursuits. It is decided to delete the post and all hell breaks loose about the decision because the OP and others thought it was funny and do not understand my feelings about it.

If, as Guth does, you want a courteous, friendly place where the clear focus of discussion is on the CB1100 with some drift into other motorcycling topics, then a place where my ancestors are constantly lampooned or riders of certain types or brands of motorcycles are abused or endlessly made the butt of people's jokes or girlie pics litter every thread will just not going to achieve that goal.

It's time for us all to suck it up. This is Guth's forum and he alone gets to say what goes. I don't always agree, but I like it a lot that this forum remains pretty energetic, viable and a great resource and that people behave well.

I'm also a member of the UK forum because I like to exchange banter with other CB1100 riders. Curiously, in spite of a drift of some members of this forum over there and few apparent limitations on what can be posted, sadly, it remains a moribund place.

There's a UK forum that I frequent for the Honda NT700. It's an amazing site. It has a humour as well as adult humour sub- forums. The members discuss both religion and politics and I've never witnessed any outbursts or complaints. Everyone has their say and don't personally attack each other. I'm constantly amazed at both the civility and respect to others shown by everyone.

So a simple thing like humor should be attainable here. Everyone has to be a little less sensitive and recognize jokes for what they are.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say that it has been my experience brought about by the company I work for having been bought out by a London based, global firm, and being exposed to their team of executives and their corporate culture, that we 'muricans lost our collective sense of humor some time ago. The Brits, inasmuch as we've been able to determine from working closely with our new partners, still have theirs and it's been damn refreshing and enjoyable.

I dare say most anyone outside of these shores still has a sense of humor that puts ours to shame.

YMMV. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Undecided

Until someone says humour I'm not going to even crack a smile.

Ok let's read the title of this thread!
IS THERE A SENSE OF HUMOR ON THIS FORUM? Then read the very first post! No where does it say anything about the CB1100 or any motorcycle at all. Yet it has been a very very active thread totaling over 70 post already! Most have enjoyed it! I know I have Smile. BUT THE RULES OF THIS FORUM IS GOT TO BE CB RELATED OR AT LEAST ABOUT A MOTORCYCLE ! If I'm wrong about this rule please let Guth or ferret post that I'm wrong! Post on here not thru a PM! Ferret & Guth have both posted in this thread and yet the thread seems to still be active! So my point is this: it's Guths & ferrets call what is legal or illegal Anyone can say I'm wrong which is fine but the speed limit on this forum is not set for all members equally! This thread has had a lot of hits and lots better than oil threads & washing a bike thread! I'm going to try to copy and paste part of a post from this thread: Otherwise, live within the rules that are set by the moderators. How hard is that to understand?
How hard is that to understand? Great question! Agin this thread not about motorcycles and it rocks! So please post the rules in this thread! Ole biker saying! RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE! One more great biker saying! LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE Smile

You've got it right that we try to keep the conversation focused on the CB1100 specifically and motorcycling in general. However, it shouldn't be that hard to understand that when someone raises a question regarding the forum itself that a discussion will follow.

I can tell you that for what is primarily a bunch of grown men, even with the small amount of leeway that is granted here when it comes to things like humor, etc., there have been quite a few hurt feelings around this place since it's been in existence. People take things far more personally than I would have ever imagined. If we start letting the conversation stray too far from our core focus (yes Ridem, that means the CB1100 and motorcycling) then we'll inevitably have more put out people who need to be consoled or who would rather make a general nuisance of themselves resulting in moderation — frankly neither of those scenarios appeal to me as I've got better things to do with my time.

I agree with Guth that some people take things far more personally than I would ever think they would.
In a previous post (not started by me) about waving when on a bike I made a little innocent JOKE about a Harley owner.
Some one with no sense of humor got really upset and that's why I ASKED ! , is there a sense of humor ?
Perhaps after living in England I should realize that some people have not the same sense as humor as the British people.
I do not need chill pills but some folks might need happy pills.

I do feel sorry for Guth having to deal with all of this after he was brave enough to start this forum.
Perhaps locked threads could go into a separate category , so if you do not want to read it you do not have to and it will not pop up any where else.

Every mod that I performed on my CB1100 was born or enhanced by information, feedback and opinion from this forum.. This information is my entertainment and it it is my sole source of CB 1100 info. Anything else is secondary. I can find everything else somewhere else. I like this Forum and thank you for your time and hard work....

Being a high school baseball coach, I am all about fundraisers to support a cause.

Here's one that'll help support this forum; send all locked threads to a special section that can only be viewed for a small fee, a la 'premium membership'....those who want enter must pay.

I'm half joking-half serious...
