Anybody have a dealer order a bike?
#1
Supposedly, a dealer I know can "get one" ('14 DLX") for me from the "warehouse."

Anybody pick up one this way? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one, if he will negotiate on price a bit.

Yep. My red NC700x was this way, and so was my 14 CB1100.

Most of the dealers I'm familiar with are selling the DLX this way. Not sure why, but I've seen few of them on showroom floors (as opposed to the standard model).

The only downside to this is that your negotiating leverage is a little less than if they had one sitting on the floor (i.e. already on their books).

Shouldn't be any problem, all dealers usually work together.

My dealer said he already had received his order/allotment for 2014. Had one 13 on the showroom floor and one 2014 standard in his warehouse but no 2014 Deluxe. Said he would have to locate one from another dealer who had a 14 Deluxe in stock and transfer it to his inventory. We located three 14 Deluxe' s at three different dealers. The closest one sold the bike before we could put a hold on it. We managed to put a hold/transfer on the second closest dealer. I had asked my dealer after we "struck out" on the first bike if he could just order one. He replied no that the only thing he could do was to locate one at another dealer and transfer to his inventory. Worked out like a charm. I did the actual transfer and saved the $250.00 transfer fee.

That's how it works with some car brands too. But dealer B just won't send dealer A a car because he asked. They have to work out a swap. And they won't just take anything you offer in return. You want a certain car that I have, so I'm going to ask you for something of more value that is in demand and easily sellable, so I'll make a bigger profit for my trouble.

This may be why some dealers will tell you a bike can't be gotten or ordered for you. They don't want to give up a valuable bike in return.

I'm guessing that dealers are preferring to take chances on getting one from "the warehouse" now, rather than having one languishing on the dealership floor, too, because they're really not the movers that everyone expected them to be. (For instance, I'm still convinced that my very own '13 that I bought in April of this year is the same one I saw at the dealer in May or June of last year, due to it's ultra-low VIN)

And due to the effort and transport, forget about much of a price reduction. I can understand that.

Lets see... No overhead. Guaranteed sale. No risk. Sounds like my kind of sales deal.

If they aren't into it, I can happily wait til next year.
