I'm mainly checking to see what else I would be missing out on besides the cluster and 6 spd if I chose the '13.
Sounds like you're one of those that wouldn't mind not having a 6th gear. My '13 is the lowest revving bike I've ever had. I don't feel the need to shift into 5th until around 70-75mph.

Agree! Third and fourth gears are amazing on the '13s. You could leave the bike there all day.
JPX- The choice, having been made for you means it must be fate.
And you never really had a dilemma since a dilemma is technically a choice between two equally bad possibilities. Like "Should I get married, or should I commit suicide?" ! ( I'm very brave when the wife isn't in the room! )

As an owner of a '13 that would be my choice but if you like the '14 standard better and would paint or replace the tank of the '13 I would suggest the extras offered by the '14 would be the better choice. I wouldn't be opposed to getting a white tank for my '13 but it's not worth spending the extra money to do so. Go with your heart, don't follow the $ , you'll find it will be spent anyways and you'll wish you went with your heart from the start. Been there many times

I was leaning towards the 2014 so maybe it is better that the 13 was sold.
I had been calling around to see how much it would cost to paint a gas tank and side covers (was probably going to do white as well). Most of my quotes were around $175 for the tank and $250 for tank and covers which I didn't think was too bad. Planning to ceramic coat the headers when I get it and get some type of fairing; Road Comet 1 most likely.

I've never ridden a 2013; but now with my 2014, I cannot imagine not having a six-speed.
Either the engine would be revving too fast at top gear at high speeds; or the spread would be too wide to be comfortable. I am noticing that the 1-2 jump and 2-3 are quite a bit; and then the gears settle into a closer ratio between them, dropping about 800 rpms on each shift.
So, maybe the 5-speed is liveable, too.

5 speed is very livable. We've discussed this several times on the forum and I am very happy with my 5 speed, and I never try to put it in "6th" on the highway.
It just doesn't rev high like some other bikes do, some others start to vibrate and you look for another gear.

The 5 speed is very livable. just a few hundred rpms difference between the 5 spped and 6 speed.
Here are the RPMS in 6 th gear on the 2014 dlx. (and I assume the 2014 std as well)

I am sure that those with a 6th gear occasionally search for a 7th
