Keeping in touch

I copy an individual post and paste that into a word doc and then save. Cumbersome, but it looks clean that way. I don't copy every single reply to a given thread, only the ones needed / wanted.

I was thinking it would do no good to save the page if the site were to go down, correct?

I think you can save the HTML files for pages and have them available locally.

Someone give him a few bucks, get the log-in & password. Done.

I think you have missed the original post about the site from the current Admin PowerDubs. You might want to withdraw that sentiment. Huh

I don't see why the reasons why he is going to shut it down somehow change the answer.

Lets all chip in to give him some money as appreciation for him having created this place we all enjoy- then someone else simply takes over the date / login / password.

You guys responding to my response as if I said something wrong is perplexing.

And nothing's lost then if the site were to cease to exist? I (mistakenly?) thought that when I right-click on a web-page, select "save as" (using a pc), that this was merely saving the address. So what I'm saving is the page itself? and one could then open that page and not even be connected to the internet because it's on my local drive?

I tried that and that seems to be the case...if so, then cool!

A quick example on a Windows PC:

* On the web page, <right click><Save as...>.
* Save as type: <Webpage, Complete>.
* Choose the destination on your chosen hard drive.

Now, to view the page offline, and to prove to yourself you actually are and not pulling the page from the internet:

* Disconnect your network. Either disable your wireless network connection, and/or pull the ethernet network cable from your PC>
* Locate where you saved your "Webpage, Complete" data.
* In a file manager application, double-click on file "index.html".

Your copy of the complete web page will be rendered in your default browser.

Sounds good, I'll give it a go.

... keep in mind not to save different web pages in the same directory. Otherwise some files will get overwritten, like the file "index.html".

Consider, at least as a start, saving each page in its own subdirectory on your media storage.

Perhaps you didn’t mean it as I took it, but, given the reasons Guth has offered for not continuing the forum, I thought stating that he didn’t care about the site was, at the very least insensitive. Give the bloke a break: he’s doing it pretty tough.

Creating a discord server might also be an option to keep in touch though it might be a bit different than a forum though it does have threads now.
