Getting rid of the CB1100
#1
Hey All,

I've been lurking the forums here for a few months trying to get inspiration on my recently purchased CB1100. I thought this would be the bike of bikes for a while. I haven't been all that pleased with it.

I bought a 2Bros Exhaust and P1X insert, hoping for a little bit of harrumph, but the bike just doesn't produce that much power. I'm surprised, it certainly lugs well and you can just about idle around in 5th gear, but it doesn't have the acceleration that I expected.

I also upgraded the suspension, HyperPro shocks tuned by EPM, made a huge difference in the rear, but I feel like the front makes it all goofy. Maybe this bike isn't what I thought it was.

The bike is certainly beautiful, and I want to keep it, but I am miserable in that every time I want to ride the bike, I know the Grom is the right choice to take for a get away! How sad is that!

Someone talk some sense into me! Huh

A few days ago it occurred to me that a motorcycle is very much an item of individual taste. My wife's car and my pickup are vehicles that I like but the decision as to which one to buy included numerous factors. When it came time to purchase a motor bike I did develop a list of things that I thought that I should include in any new bike. For example I wanted my bike to weight 450 pounds or less.
Then I read about the CB1100. Then I went and sat on one and took a test drive. It is just the right bike for me in so many ways. I don't see myself as a 'me' kind of person. I have provided for my family consistently for 40 years (I recently retired).

Well I suppose I am just rambling on and on but the more a meditate/contemplate the concept that a motorbike is a most individual item the more that concepts make sense to me.

I appreciate the response. Several things that have been lurking around my head lately are the same. How does the bike fit me, how does it fit my life. I'm looking for something nearly impossible, A trials bike, a trails bike, an enduro, and a dual sport, all in one! Then I need something for my girlfriend and I to ride together. I think what I have to do is throw most of my wishes to the wind, and get something that is simply comfortable for the two of us. I wish I had money to buy them all!

In my opinion, motorcycles are purchased not out of necessity, but as an expression of our individualism. They are inherently a selfish purchase that most of us make once our other responsibilities are met. This is also why bikes are the first to go when we experience hard times. Therefore, I feel that the bikes we have should be exactly what we want. The CB1100 is perfect for me because of its easy nature as I'm a new rider. If you aren't happy with the CB, keep looking! Have you seen the new Ducati scrambler or the new Africa Twin? There are a ton of great bikes out there, just take it easy on yourself and go looking at new bikes!

Omg! Shhhh, don't tell me to look at new bikes! I am so bad, I have been riding since I was 19 and have had way too many! I started on a 600 f4i, but didn't like the crowd it gathered, everyone wanted to race. I don't run that way, I like to ride. I miss my '99 Thunderbird sport, and have always been a honda fanboy, thought the CB would be the one!

About individualism, that is why I have the Grom. That bike is me. Just a fun little bike fo rpeople to poke fun at and for me to love! That's my me bike, I have another bike for competition, practicality and more fitting to my lifestyle. I like to ride year around, but also really love riding dirt roads and enduros. Would love a bike to fit all those. The new Africa Twin is gorgeous, but one of the other things I am trying to change, is how much I spend on these darn things!

There are a lot of motorcycles out there, excellent motorcycles. If this one doesn't float your boat, perhaps another will.

Brook, if the bike doesn't speak to you, there is nothing to apologize for. I've yet to meet anyone that doesn't find the CB beautiful. But its performance and engine characteristics aren't for everyone, and throwing a bunch of money at it might not be a good idea. You are right about the T'Bird Sport. The Triumph triple is a character- rich engine, and in my opinion, the best all around motor today, in all its displacements. But in reality, the CB is a more modern and refined bike than that now- 20 year old design. Good luck.

All bike pondering discussion is fine, but I removed the sale bits from original post as we have some pretty specific requirements around here regarding the posting of items for sale. Really sorry to hear that the CB1100 isn't working out for you, but there are lots of other bikes out there. Good luck with finding the right bike for you.
