Thanks!! As a talking point while I let craigslist do its magic, I would like some opinions. If you (members of CB1100 forum) are buying a 2014 standard, would you pay 6300 for used with 3k miles, or 8500 for new?
If the bike was cared for and broken-in responsibly...you're ahead with the used one. That's scarcely enough use to burn the wax off the headers.
If you get a brand-new one, and you want it to last...you have to baby it for the first 800 miles or so. That's a pain.
If you can get a better financing deal with the new (my credit union loaned me at two percent) then go that way. Otherwise...two grand is two grand. That's some serious money; and this being a Honda and a substantial machine, it WILL last - maybe longer than you can ride it.

+1 on that.

Thanks everyone, lots of good feedback. I'd like to just get the used, but I am not sure if/when I can sell my bike for a decent amount. The dealer with the new is offering me about 4725 for the trade, which isn't terrible but not great. I'm listed on CL, does anyone have better ideas on how to sell a used bike for a good price?

If both new and used are standards, I'd go with the used. It the new is a deluxe for $8500 I'd go for the new. Another variable is the trade in offer by the dealer..if it is at least somewhat above blue book trade in value you would at least save the hassle of selling off your driveway...(I'm the guy who bought a brand new 2014 Std) for $8600 out the door...I do not feel like I have to get out of it what I have in it, but that is just me..

Great insight as always, Bob. The bike I'm trading has been a hot ticket the last year or so, and the dealer did offer a good price according to KBB. More than fair, so I am seriously considering their offer.
To slightly complicate matters more, there's a forum member in MI selling a DLX with 4k miles for 10500..... I would love to get the DLX as that's what I wanted to start with, so now I have to try and figure out some financials.

There are always alternatives....I try to keep in mind that it is just "stuff."

You know what, Bob? You're too smart. haha. It is just stuff, and I often get to over thinking these kinds of things. At this point for me it's better to spend less money overall, so I'm leaning towards the dealer offer as it's the only sure-fire way to sell my old bike while getting a CB. I have until next weekend (next opportunity I'd have to make it down there during winter business hours) to see if I get any traction on selling my bike myself, or I'll head down and trade up!
Thanks.

$10.5k for a used DLX seems like a lot. When I come across them around here, they're closer to $8k.

Yeah, the more I thought about it I kind of came to the same conclusion. The only difference I care of is the 4-2 exhaust. Saving on the STD will make it easier to stomach getting a K10 conversion kit in a couple years. lol

Guess no one around here remembers how to negotiate
BTW, abs is well worth having. Besides abs, there's a reason there's a plethora of Std's left but no DLX's.

Ditto. $10,500 seems a bit much. If you could negotiate closer to $8,000 it'd be a different story. That said, the DLX models are slim pickings so pay what you're comfortable with.
For reference, there was a mint DLX from Vermont posted in the Classified section about a month ago that went for $8,500. It had barely over 1,000 miles and included several extras. If I recall correctly, it had a Corbin seat, a superbrace, a variety of soft luggage bags, driving lights, etc. He also included all OEM parts. It was a beautiful bike with what I considered tasteful add ons. If I hadn't bought a 2013 about three weeks prior I would have snapped it up in an instant.
Good luck with your search!
