I would like to do a few group rides a year or even just ride with some new people here and there. I got a couple buddies with bikes and I ride with my dad sometimes but those are rare as they don't ride as much as me. I do like to ride alone too because you can do so at your own pace and its nice to not have to worry about another rider, not that I mind really. It would be cool to meet some new riders. I am north of St. Paul MN if anyone ever wants to get something going.!

My last group ride was probably my last group ride ever. It was me and 50 v twins with no mufflers for 50 miles each way non stop. I was deaf and exhausted. I was so traumatized I forgot to turn off my ignition when I got home and wore my battery down to nothing. Get together a group of CB's and I'm back in. But I think I am the only CB in southern Maine. It sucks.

You have to admire HD marketing! They really turned the company post AMF. Remember when they lobbied and got congress to pass a law for import taxes, so we wound up with 700cc bikes rather than 750cc.

My first big bike was a 1985 Kawasaki Vulcan 700cc. I replaced it with the exact same bike, virtually unchanged, except in was now a 750cc.

Back about 10 years ago, some of my buds and I led the Moto Guzzi National Owners Club Bikeweek Rides. 3 years in a row. The first year was pretty well attended, but the second knocked it out of the park with 70 bikes. Still remember seeing a line of headlights in my mirrors that seemed to go on for miles. That was a pretty proud day. The third year stormed pretty hard, but if you know Guzzisti, you know there were still a dozen hardcore who showed up ready to ride.
I love doing a long solo ride every year, nice to not have a schedule, no agenda. Also do one or two group trips, anywhere from 3 to 6 others. All these trips are 2 to 2.5k miles usually. My buds and I ride pretty much every Sunday too. I put over 12k miles on the CB in the first year, looking to do the same this year too

It sounds like we have a pretty good number of group riders on board, I'm happy to say, more that I anticipated. Glad to see we are such a diverse group

you are such a good pack leader - some groups, the leaders ride as fast as they can and let the rest follow as fast as they dare, normally, these are smaller packs. This is plain dangerous and inconsiderate for the safety of less accomplished riders
Group rider tends to stick in their group, so they try to catch up if speed is faster than they want to ride

I ride with a group every Wed. and have done so for the last 15 years. We meet for coffee in the morning and take off out of the city into the country side & county roads in the remote part of Florida and go to some various small towns for lunch. Everyone is retired and we ride at vary conservative
pace (Slow). We usually have 7 to 10 riders on all brands of bikes, we call our group "The Over The Hill Gang" . I tell everyone that it beats staying
home and doing nothing or watching TV.

Love the video. Really captured what I love about group rides.
To cbdtran's comment, I have ridden with leaders that take off fast and leave the group to fend for themselves. It's not a good situation. However, in smaller groups (especially in which most or all of the riders know each other well), we often put the faster riders in front for the "fun" sections which sometimes divides the group into two smaller ones. The key differences in how we do it versus how you presented it is that the whole group knows what is happening before it happens, that the second group has it's own leader, that the two groups agree to re-unite at key intersections or at some designated spot, and that no rider is ever criticized for riding his/her own ride so long as he/she is not endangering themselves or anyone else in the group. Twice I have been on rides where the leaders essentially abandoned the slower riders for miles and miles and in both cases, the leaders chose to point out just how slow those of us in the second group were. I don't ride with those guys anymore.

I prefer to ride alone. Have done a number of charity veteran rides over the years but still prefer to ride alone.
