Exhaust note
#1
My new CB has been everything I could hope for. Perfect in every way except one...and it's fairly minor. I wish it was a bit louder. My former bike was a Harley Iron...I enjoyed the bike but it was inferior to this one in almost every way. The one thing I do miss is the sound. It was nice to hear that assertive growl break the silence before your ride. Anyone have a suggestion for getting the stock pipe to be a tad louder? Also, if you believe the only solution is a different pipe, please feel free to suggest one. Thanks gang!

Some have drilled their stock exhausts with various levels of success. Most go with an aftermarket exhaust. Seems top choices are in order Staintune, arrow and yoshimura.

This should be a sound clip of my modified factory exhaust.

Sounds just like mine! Didn't cost three to five hundred dollars, either.

Just goes to show everyone is different. I really like the quiet exhaust and tell people it sounds like 4 hummingbirds ...

I've sung their praises here before, and I'll say it again: Staintune's system is perfect. Great, low, full sound, but not too loud (I'm 58 and am over loud exhausts - they're just too tiring after a while), and the quality is second to none. Couldn't recommend them enough.

I went a different route that most do here. I added a Two Brothers M2 slip on. There are those that would argue that it doesn't fit the retro feel of the bike. I like that it adds a modern twist to a retro machine and the exhaust note is great. I'm still using the stock header though, and the catalytic converter is definitely a source of sound attenuation. At some point I'll either open up that cat, remove the guts and weld it back, or simply go with a cat free titanium header.
