Just went for 30 miles or so and had a nice lunch with a friend. Before I took off, I added 4 pounds to each tire and a quarter of a quart of oil. First time to need oil. It's been 2600 miles since my last oil change, so I suppose that's normal enough. Anyhow, she's running like a top!

It was just bottom of the sight. Now it's at the top line or a hair over. I have checked it within the last 500 miles and it was near the bottom line, so i need to start being more attentive. Bummer.

Seems to me when I have been changing oil and the oil is at the bottom of the site glass, it takes no more than 4 oz to bring it up to the top line.

anyone else recall?

4 oz - 120 ml give or take that it my recollection.
I have not needed to top up between changes.
Number 96 "Salacious" had just over 25,000 km (15600 miles) when it turned of onto the Highway to Hell.

I'm not actually sure how much I added. I just glanced at the bottle when I was done filling and it looked like about that. I will take a look later and see if I can tell more accurately.

I took a look at the bottle and it seems I added a bit more than a quarter of a quart, so I was down more than I thought. Dang. I checked the level while holding the bike roughly level rather than on the center stand.
I tend to ride with the RPM in the 3-4k range most of the time. I suppose that might account for some oil loss, though I would hope not. I try hard to never lug it and I don't go over 5k RPM. Well, maybe now and then, but never before lunch
Any thoughts on who might have stolen my oil?

Seems strange it would use that much oil. Where you are when checking oil level can make a difference. Even a small variance from a level surface when on the center stand can give an incorrect oil level reading. My bike is always on the center stand when in the garage. A quick glance at the oil window before every ride is easy.

My ST1300 used a bit of oil during break in but the CB has never used any measurable amount between changes.

I was on a level spot (Front to back. We live on a hill) but it wasn't on the center stand. I just knelt down and leaned it toward me until it was balanced. I'll put it on the center stand next time I'm on a truly flat spot and check it then. But I can't imagine that will make such a big difference. I hope not, as I added a lot of oil and now it would be overfilled. Dang, this is too much. I think I'll just ride. Except for the snow and all

I've got almost 6,000 miles on my '13 and it still uses oil, but I'm not concerned. I had a '99 Nighthawk 750 that used a little oil until it had 7,000 miles on it, then it stopped. The tolerances for an air/oil cooled engine are different than a water-cooled engine and they take longer to fully break in.
