motorcycle cover

At the moment, I'm living in an apartment. If everything goes well, I'll be purchasing some land and building a metal building with an apartment later this year. (I'm single, so this seems perfect for me right now)

I keep my bike under the covered parking. What cover are you guys without garages using? I know that nothing is perfect without a dry garage, but I mostly just want to keep the stray cats off and just cover the bike when I'm parked for a few days. Where I live is very humid, so it needs to breathe a little.

I get the all weather ones from Cyclegear. They last about a year or so in the sun in Phoenix. But the bags they come in are great for stuff sacks. Smile

On sale they are about $50-$60.

There are lots of them on Amazon.com
Various price ranges and levels of quality.
I just ordered a waterproof, breathable in XXL so it'll fit easily over the bar end mirrors, turn signals and mufflers. Has tie downs for when it's windy too.
Made by a known manufacturer, including free shipping, $15.99.

It's pretty amazing the stuff you can get on Amazon, and it usually only takes a few days to arrive Wink

Thanks. I usually went with the $50-100 covers several years ago, before I took a 4 year break from riding. I didn't know if people were using the high dollar covers or just the more affordable ones. I usually had moisture on my bike when I uncovered it because of the high humidity. But I was keeping the bike pretty clean and polished, and I didn't have too much rust. I'll probably just get a cheaper one for now and see how it works out.

I have a Nelson Rigg Defender 2000, that plus the car port has done a pretty good job.
It doesn't really rain much here, but when it does rain, it comes down pretty solid. I am a happy customer with what I got.

Was gifted a legitimate Honda cover. Fits almost any midsized bike, and is pretty well made. It breathes, has a strap to keep it on in wind. Biggest plus, its got a huge Honda logo on it, that equates to "Don't Steal Me, I'm not a Harley" up here. I never use it in the rain, but if the bike stays out overnight, it keeps the majority of ashes and sap off it. Otherwise I have a inside storage.

MG, do you mind linking me what you bought? I just trashed my old cover as it was this canvas-y kind of tarp that really didn't protect much. Need a cover ASAP that is water proof.

Recently purchased a cover on Amazon made by a company called Formosa Covers, best quality I have ever seen for motorcycle covers. Higly recommend them.

Funny this should come up.. the low cost house brand all weather cover that I bought for keeping my CBR 250 outdoors has started falling apart after only 2 years or so.. (the fabric is disintegrating at the stress points).
The quality covers that I'd used in decades past during apartment life lasted way more time than this.
I'll be ante-ing up for a Dow WeatherAll (or whatever it's called) cover to replace it. Higher cost, but it'll last longer.

A good cover does wonders.. I don't have a garage for my car (the motorcycles get the garage, priorities, you know).. It's been kept in the driveway under a premium weathershield cover for all of it's, so far, 15 years since new.. and it still looks new. FWIW, the weathershield car covers seem to last about 5 years or so of continuous outdoors use.

The cover I use looks something similar to this, without the logo on it:

http://www.polo-motorrad.de/de/greyhound...-1-75.html

There is an ability to tie it, if there is some wind/storm outside.
I bought it in XL, 'cause I mounted a windshield and a pair of saddlebags on the CB.
Of course, I let the Honda cool down, before I cover it. The same goes for a wet CB ,
when I have to ride home within some rain. I wait, 'til it's dried, or dry it by myself.

For letting dry the bike properly after long periods in different climates so to say undercover,
you once in a while have to remove the cover in good weather conditions, although the cover is
breathable and sort of very resistant against any kind of influences. Or in my case, you drive a lot....

It's a good substitute for not having a garage. I don't have one.
An excellent cover is a well used chance, to protect the Honda against weathering, combined with other methods of
care.

But as long as you use your motorcycle, there will always be some development of patina involved,
nevertheless how much you care and wherever you're bike is at home.
I accept this as part of being normal up to certain degree....
