Posting pictures here is not a breeze it's true. Uploading them directly to the site is made more difficult by the need to keep image sizes small to manage the amount of space our greatly esteemed leader has to pay for.

There is a relatively simple approach that many of us adopt. I'll try to set it out simply to try to help you and others who find this a pain.

1. Go to a third party hosting site, for example Flikr, Photobucket, Google+ and create an account. I recommend Photobucket but only because it comes complete with tools that allow you easily to post photos here.

2. Open an account.

3. You should see easily how to upload the photos you want to display.

4. You will then see a screen that looks something like this—


5. Let's say it's the picture on the right I want to display to the forum.


6. See the boxes underneath the picture? The one you want has the heading 'IMG'. Click in the text box underneath it. It will go blue (or maybe some other colour depending on your system).


7. Once it's blue, copy it using what ever mechanism you use for copying stuff on screen—the edit menu, right clicking, ctrl-C, whatever.

8. Paste the text into the compose box on the forum. That's all you have to do. Photobucket has produced the necessary instructions to tell the forum software what to do. It will look like this—


9. What you see in the photo above is this post. The square brackets containing text are called Tags. They tell the forum software to do something. In this case I'm telling it to align the next bit in the centre of the screen. I then tell it to display the image at the internet address you can see, which is my Photobucket account. The tags at the end of the URL tell the software it has reached the end of the instructions.

10. Press 'Preview Post' or 'Post Reply' and your pictures should display.

I have tried and tried to follow the instructions for using "photobucket". I find that:

1.) He speaks too fast.
2.) He uses language that assumes familiarity.
3.) The places were one must enter in order to use photobucket, are harder to find than the instructions themselves.
4.)As you follow along you realize that he has left you behind.
5.)No attempt is made to explain what a "right click" or a "right click" is! (Don't worry someone explained it and boy did I feel stupid!)
6.)The printing is very small and when I strain to see were he is going, I still don't know were it is, and he's moved on to bigger and better things.
7.) When I finally get to were I'm supposed to be getting there is either and address, or a number I'm suppose to know but I can't recall what it is, so after about 20 minutes of chasing my proverbial tail I begin to cry and just give up.

Other than what I've mentioned here it is perfectly easy to use. Oh, and the only thing harder than these easy to follow steps, are the directions many people give in order to prove that it's really simple!
Oh I forgot. How do I put paste on a computer? And were do I buy it?
I keep forgetting to ask this. Just how many times must I sign up to photobucket? Whenever I go there I sign up and in the end of all those question they tell me "I already have an account!" But sometimes I just go round and round filling my name over and over again and racking my brain as to what my 'PASSWORD" is. And by the way, why do I need a password? When I worked for the airlines I would need a new one every 30 days (from something called "IT") because I could never remember the darn thing. I guess photobucket thinks I'm still working for the airlines. Folks I'm telling you it's not easy at all!

I think you can probably still buy paste at a newsagent—is that what you call them in the US? Failing that, maybe a supermarket. Keep it away from the keys; they g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g--g-gg-get stuck and can become quite hard to use. But it's OK on the screen, for a while anyway. It's like using white out, though, you think you've got it but then those pesky letters move around underneath it.

I can't really help you with the problem of passwords. I guess they want you to have one so that some unscrupulous forum member doesn't load up your account with pornography or something like that. I've a number of ways of storing them securely, but that also requires a password! You have to have one for this august forum; perhaps you could use the same one? Yes, yes, yes, all you geeks I know it's not recommended.

I'm a bit interested in writing instructions that people can follow so, if you'd be kind enough to tell me where you got lost, I'll have another go.

Perhaps this post should be in another thread, but I can use a little help...

I wanted to send a link to my report, Tales of the Dragon, to a friend, but when I opened the report, most of my pictures are now showing as links, links that don't even connect to anything. I have not moved or removed photos from the Photobucket album I created and I can still view all the pics in Photobucket.

Can someone open up this link and let me know if you see all the photos. If you don't and have some suggestions on fixing things, please let me know.

I wouldn't think this would effect external links, but is being a member and being logged in required to view photos on this forum -- I've run into this a lot elsewhere.

Thanks, Kmonkey. Although in this case, I am the one unable to see the pics and I am logged in. I am on my iPad, though which could might be the problem, although it's never been a problem before.
