 High-speed stability off our CB1100
#21
Ok. Thanks for all that. I'll keep my tires at 36F 42R and continue to monitor the cupping / feathering of the tread on front - if it gets too bad, I'll just replace the tire and have the dealer check alignment, etc when they do it. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing that type of wear with the Dunlop OE front tire.

Hey Tezza, the Dunlop OE tire on the front of my bike is cupping a bit at only 2,200 miles. Is that the same abnormal wear you were getting?

An old racing friend of mine says the dual back shocks can be a problem at high speeds, that's why most bikes have gone mono. Not sure myself and I don't spend much time over 75mph but when I have gone over 80 it felt fine to me.

I did a nice set of sweepers at 90-95 the other day, I was bit surprised about the pickup and go and well she felt. Not quite as confident inspiring as the Griso, but pretty good. But I'm basically a chicken poop so it was just for those two turns and went back to milk toast riding. Angel

My front end felt a little "floaty" on high speed corners and I added one full turn to the preload and it's fine now.

No windscreen on mine and I've taken it to it's max speed several times with no issues on the crappy New Brunswick roads. Bangs off of 190 kms/hr before the limiter take it back down to 180 ish. I've also got the pegs all grinded to hell and it's rock solid at some pretty decent lean angles!

Wouldn't a full turn put it back at the start?

No, preload on the front end is adjustable over a 4 turn spacing and I think it is set 3 rd from full soft from the factory, so you could turn it 1 full turn stiffer, or 2 full turns softer.

and rode till now the 1500 km.

The CB runs absolutely great and makes a hell of fun. But I noticed that up to about 140km / h, the bike is great on the road, while above 160 km / h I got the impression that the CB becomes a bit unstable. I drive solo and bring with me 185m about 90 kg on the scales. Reasons could be of course the fork & shock absorber settings. But I also suspect the Dunlop D205 as a source of the problem.

How is it with you? Do you have the fork & shock absorbers adjusted differently? And maybe someone has a direct comparison of other tires with regard stability?

I have the same "issue" as you, dunno if its a real issue or more a point of critique, but I made a topic about this as well, didnt notice you started one before.

Whats the nature of your unstability you are refering too? Mine is a slight wobble of the handlebar...

Everything is still stock, except for a Road Comet windscreen with a high Aero touring shield.

And the moment I noticed that at topspeed (171km/h = 107mph) there was a lot of wind, 35km/h = (22mph)

EDIT:
hmmmm, most important, I did forget to mention that I did ride with a huge topcase, 55 litre Givi E55 Maxia 3 Blush

I assume this could cause the front to wobble at high speed?

Riko I have a feeling this forum member moved on to a different bike. He was only here for about 2 months and the last time he was here was April of 2015
