Why would anyone part out a perfectly good CB1100?

Browsing on ebay and ran across a 2013 engine--reasonable to assume it was off a totaled out CB until I clicked on the video for the company selling the parts...

I could understand if it was totaled or 20+ years old but a newer bike? Makes me sick.

Their website seems to indicate they are a parts place. I guess the parts can be sold for more than the whole bike. My guess anyway.

I had a partner that did this in the winter when things were slow - he could buy bikes take them apart and sell the parts on ebay or where ever and make more money then redoing them and then selling them in the spring. The parts are worth much more and you don't have to deal with titles or safety disclosures etc..

I know of guys who put their bikes on ebay for a week or two, and when they didn't sell, tore them down and sold them for parts. THey said you make more money that way but it's a lot of work selling/boxing/shipping one part at a time.

Breaking down and parting out is the time-honored method of liquidating a hot bike. This seller must be legit (no chop shop would film and post their deeds online) but I'm sure many other used parts found on eBay are stolen.

After my partner had been a tech for years and I had spent time in the vintage world you can sometimes buy a
old junk bike that has one or two parts in good shape that can't be had anywhere else. These parts can be sold
for more then the price of the bike if you can find the people looking for them.

Not just necessarily in this example, but title issues, total by insurance co, plenty of other things.
I bought a "totaled" '13 from a Forum member a while back, for $1800.00. It had minor damage, easily fixable, but had a salvage title because of a dented frame. Still straight, tracked well, rode fine, stopped fine, engine and tranny ran perfectly. Bent bars, busted turn signals, mirror, dented tank, scratched can, misc. stuff.
I bought it to make money. Parting it out was the way to go. Lots of Forum members got some good deals, and I still have parts here and there that I'm selling as I find them.

I generally agree, but don't assume all criminals are smart and think things through first.
Not always true, and add a desire (ego) to see yourself in a video and you'd be surprised what people post online.

Fairly disturbing as pointed out by OP. In parts this bike is worth ten grand. In trade I found out the other day only $3,500. lol

I didn't have the patience to sit there and add the numbers but it would be a big number. The only thing I can see missing/ sold so far is maybe a rim and tail pipe? Must take a long time to make back your money this way.
